Do you idle the car on for 10 mins in this cold?
I dont drive my m2 i this snow weather, but i still will let the car idle for 10 mins when it gets real cold like this if i haven't driven it in days.
Do you do the same thing? |

Once mine is parked I don’t do anything other than run the battery tender. I don’t see any value in a 10 minute idle. I can’t imagine anything gets hot enough to evaporate any condensation that occurs, especially if you are not driving.
What do you see as the advantage? |

No need to do that. Just turn the engine on and see engine RPM goes to normal range after cold start and slowly drive away. Just make sure dont go crazy on throttle until engine is warm enough, and keep it under 3k. (Well if you go WOT you will kill yourself in this weather anyways)
Now weather is getting better and I need to wash mine |

I simply don’t start mine until it is out of storage. I can’t imagine any benefit if you aren’t driving it.

Driving is the proper way to warm up a car so rarely ever more than one minute and it's been -20 up here for a few weeks now. I just keep the revs down for the first 10 minutes of driving and it warms up pretty fast.

The point is for a car that going to sit in the garage for the majority of the time through winter, is it worth to just start it up when you have some deep freeze days

Letting it stay dormant isn't going to do anything, either. Let it idle if it makes you happy. It certainly sounds lovely. |

Didn't he also say that he has recently seen a couple of N55 seize up due to condensation/freezing issues? Seems the safest thing is to park it, slap a battery tender on it and cover it up until spring. Biggest concern there would be flat spots on the tires, but there are tire "ramps" available for that.
