Does limp mode occur in non modded 335i's?

So far Ive had 2 limp modes and I think that I caused both of them out of stupidity....forgetting that I was in DS and had hit a paddle so causing it not to shift automatically then bouncing off the rev limiter for a second before realizing that I need to shift. I did this today showing my cars 'extra' power to a friend.

My question is this, do any of you who have a stock tuning have limp modes pop up from time to time or is it just the tuned cars?

Also, if I understand correctly, this is not a CEL its just a limp mode so no ODBII codes will be thrown and it wont be recorded in the ECU...is this correct or am I way off here?

Wait, let me get this straight, a Limp will only occur when you hit the rev limiter?? I've got that twice WITHOUT hitting the rev limiter :-( taking her in week after next to the stealer...to see whats up

I had a limp mode caused by a failed fuel injector (not the pump). So, yes it's possible for a stock car to go limp. As far as going limp driving the way it's intended, that has never been my case. I drive the car spiritedly, and often, without limps.

Everyone who's replied so far with stock limps seems to have had parts failures. FWIW, my untuned 335i has 6,000 very enthusiastic miles on it and has never limped or thrown a CEL.

Glad I'm not superstitious or I'd be nervous posting this...

mine wasn't due to parts failure, it's due to hot oil/coolant temps....which are caused by driving a bimmer like a bimmer

Limping now as I am posting this. Cylinder 4 misfire... most likely a crapped out sparkplug...

I've had more limps stock then modded (3 - 0), two of those were for the same problem (fuel pump), last one was something to do with the tranny (Software Update fixed it)..

I have had one limp mode issue in my un-modded ride which was due to a turbo failure. The turbo was replaced and it runs fine now.

Hey imaznumkay... was your sister's 335i modded or stock? Just curious, cuz I'm getting the same story from my dealership.
