Drowsy alert?
We are toward the very end of three weeks of driving. My wife did half of the miles today while I took out the contacts and hoped to relax a bit.
I was not self-aware enough to take a picture, but I heard probably a dong then the main screen had a message with three options. The main screen was black, I think, with text in white letters. I think this was a warning about being drowsy. I selected not to be alerted again since we had maybe 50 miles left at that point. What I am curious about is whether the camera was reading her eyes or whether there was something about her steering that triggered this alert. Anyone else seen this or was I dreaming in the first place?

I have seen this a few times. It usually comes on like 3-4 hours into a drive. I have been very alert when it comes on, so I just assumed it is triggered based on driving time. But I could be wrong.

The "alertness assistant" algorithm takes in to account a number of factors:
Strong side winds and poor road conditions can fool the system in to thinking you are more tired than you actually are. It's only active above 43mph/70km/h. When you saw the alert you would have had the option to find places to stop, to be reminded later or not to be reminded again. I think if you defer the warning it reminds you again in 20 minutes. |

You weren't dreaming. I also read somewhere that there's a camera that watches the drivers eyes and head position but this excerpt from the manual doesn't say that. Alertness assistant General information The system can detect decreasing alertness or fatigue of the driver during long, monotonous trips, for instance on highways. In this situation, it is recommended that the driver takes a break. Safety information Personal responsibility Function The system is switched on each time drive-ready state is switched on. After travel has begun, the system monitors certain aspects of the driver's behavior, so that decreasing alertness or fatigue can be detected. This procedure takes the following criteria into account: Personal driving style, for instance steering behavior. Driving conditions, for instance length of trip. Starting at approx. 43 mph/70 km/h, the system is active and can also display a recommendation to take a break. Break recommendation Settings The alertness assistant is active automatically with each switching on of drive-ready state and can thus display a break recommendation. The break recommendation can also be switched on or off and adjusted via iDrive. Via iDrive: "CAR" "Settings" "General settings" "Fatigue and Focus Alert" Select desired setting: "Standard": the break recommendation is made with a defined value. "Sensitive": the break recommendation is issued earlier. "Off": no break recommendation is made. Display If the driver becomes less alert or fatigued, a message is displayed in the Control Display with the recommendation to take a break. During the display, the following settings can be selected: "Do not ask again" "Places to stop" "Remind me later" The break recommendation is repeated after 20 minutes. After a break, another recommendation to take a break cannot be displayed until after approximately 45 minutes. System limits The function may be limited in the following situations, for instance and will either output an incorrect warning or no warning at all: When the clock is set incorrectly. When the vehicle speed is mainly below about 43 mph/70 km/h. With a sporty driving style, such as during rapid acceleration or when cornering fast. In active driving situations, such as when changing lanes frequently. When the road surface is poor. In the event of strong side winds. The system is reset approx. 45 minutes after parking the vehicle, for instance in the case of a break during longer trips on highways. |

I saw this many times on a road trip. I usually hit, “don’t show again’ but it was rather clever on how it reads the conditions. I also liked the “would you like to get fuel” message on long road trips. I think that came on at around 1/4 tank.

Then it is somewhat curious that while I was averaging 80 mph and not at my peak performance - but light traffic on I-40 - that the system did not tag me.

Is this standard on all G05? We havent had a chance to take it on a long trip and never gotten those message.
My parents MB had a message telling them to "take a break" on a long road trip to visit us last month. They dont know english and asked what it was. Guess there was a sensor that detected he was getting tired. I thought it was pretty cool and wish we had that on our car we recently purchased! |

According to the Build it is standard but I thought someone posted here that their X5 didn't have a camera. Maybe that was an early build.

That was my understanding and posted something something similar a few months ago and another poster said that was incorrect and they came with all models due to the Alertness system. Since that system is listed as standard, it made sense.

The early builds were unusual to order from. A lot of the packages were split up or unavailable so you had to order each option as a stand-alone option. Most were built as European models with USA options and equipment. That’s how my 50i M-Sport got its fender badges and the“executive trim” but with all stand alone options as a Premium build. The first two months there were all kinds of strange ordering combinations. I have not had any issues so perhaps they spent more attention to earlier builds as they all were different coming through the line??

just checked, Active Driving Assistant is standard, but Active Driving Assistant Plus/Pro is the $1700 package. It was some how deleted from our build after having to reorder. oh well, i guess we didnt need it since we didnt even know that feature wasnt on the car. lol. $1700 saved. going to go buy myself some more accessories now! |

yep, that's what i've gathered. We've driven over 1000 miles and didnt even know it was missing, so no harm done and saved the $1700 Pro package
