Is it okay to drive a few hundred miles before the oil change?

I crossed 10K and can't get into my dealer for first oil change until next week. I am out exploring this weekend and my daily work commute is 30 miles roundtrip. This is my first bmw so not sure. Thank you.

I wouldn't think that a couple of hundred extra miles would have any ill effect whatsoever especially if they aren't extreme condition miles.

No, actually bimmers traditionally explode at 10,001 miles if oil isn't changed in time. I am surprised that hasn't happened yet, something must be wrong with your car.

I think I am 300 miles over already. I can take public transit to work if it will cause damage to engine.

Did your oil/service indicator tell you that an oil change is required? Modern BMWs follow service intervals based on your driving and vehicle condition. It's not longer every specific interval like 10K change your oil etc.

If you have it serviced before it's due it's out of your pocket. To give you an idea, the first oil change on my F15 was 13700mi.

Ah then, yep a couple of hundreds of miles after 10K is fine.

Please tell me this is a joke.

You'll be fine. Don't worry about it. I wouldn't go 10k over the service interval, but even a few thousand miles won't do anything.

No, the actual joke is that he doesn't know about the BMW customary 10,001 mile explosion as a customer penalty for missing the exact oil change mile. There is no +/- with bimmers, after all — you do it exactly when told or else. :-).

You will have to sit in the corner facing the wall at the dealer when you do show up. Shame on you for breaking the rule.

Mechanically speaking you will be fine.

I had this happen one time with a GM SUV. The tech noted on my paperwork "Oil life at 0%". Felt like it was documented there as an excuse to not cover an oil related engine issue down the road. That never occurred thankfully, but always better to change your oil before to avoid a situation where a dealer or manufacturer has an excuse to deny you warranty coverage.
