Hello and thank you for contacting BMWPartsPros!

This kit takes roughly around three hours to install and pretty easy to do with the correct tools.

We recommend a BMW shop to install this kit for warranty reasons and safety.

Hi

I see you note that a Electrical Add-On Kit is required with the Trailer Hitch Kit.

How much does that cost and what else is needed to have an operational tow hitch that is wired and ready to go?

Thank you

Hello,

This trailer hitch kit unfortunately is not compatible with the X3 M Models since the M models are not equipped with the wiring harnesses from the factory.

Best option for your model will have to be aftermarket.

Would a brake controller be required along with all items mentioned to pull a trailer with electrical brakes and is there a part number to this controller

Yes their is a control unit required only with this trailer hitch kit for any trailer you are pulling and not sold separately without the entire kit.
