Oops iOS
Ok thank you for confirming it’s not possible yet. I’m trying to convince myself I don’t need car play. Last edited by jasrboyd; 08-04-2019 at 04:07 PM.. |

They've pretty much forced you into CarPlay now.

You can still use Siri without enabling CarPlay but it has its limitations. To me after fumbling around and settling on how to use idrive without CarPlay I’m convinced it’s me being nickel and dimed. This should all just work no matter what. It should be simple too not rocket science. Anyways thanks for the replies it helped me figure things out.

I'd be happy with CP if it wasn't so damn buggy!
Sometimes it refuses to connect at all. Sometimes it connects but audio remains with the phone(?). In both scenarios I have a Wifi disable/enable shortcut/favourite to connect it which works but is a complete PITA doing that every 1 in 4 times. I've gone weeks without issues thinking 'whats the problem with CP everyone goes on about?' and then boom, broken again. Probably an iOS update, or someone turned a microwave oven on next door, or something... So, I've given up for now. iDrive only on the car, and back to a phone cradle near the dash. Every use-case rock solid. Maybe some combination of IOS 13 and ISTA 4.18.x (1907) will improve matters but until then I'm done. I wouldn't have a problem paying for it to 'keep it working', but it never has worked! |

I think that is because your phone is picking up your Hey Siri and not because iDrive is but that could have changed.

My biggest issue with carplay is that it disables the wifi and I cannot use the Wifi hotspot of the car. |

What I'm referring to is that since updating to iOS 12.4, CarPlay no longer drops/misses connections. As far as the HotSpot goes, I have never had the problem you are describing but only used the HotSpot a few times.
