Two X5 questions from new owner

I was hoping people could help.
First, I park my car in the garage and don’t lock it. If I run out to the garage to grab something from car, then shut the door, the dashboard stays on and doesn’t shut off by itself. Is there a setting that can change this. It is a pain to constantly have to lock it.
Second, I hate the auto shutoff at stop signs, etc. Is there a way to change this so it defaults to being deactivated when I start the car. I hate having to deactivate it every time I get in the car.
Thanks for any help!

The dash will turn off by itself no need to lock. I believe its about 1 min or so after exit.

You can simply put it in sport mode if you like that disables ASS but you have to put it in sport each time as well. I hear Bimmer code is working on it or if not already has a way to program it off, but this is a third party software you must program yourself and accept the risk. It isn't very hard to do and looking at the responses seems pretty safe to do. I got to the point memory has me turning off the ASS each time I press start no matter what anyway.

Bimmercode ASS coding was the very first G05 coding feature released and has remained available and reliable through every version of Bimmercode since.

Default Sport (or any other) mode can easily be coded as well, but not currently with Bimmercode.

The problem with the dash isn’t when I park in garage for first time when I arrive home. He issue occurs when I go back to the car a few hours later, grab something from the car and close the doors. The dash stays on.

So you are saying when you open the door the dash comes on, you grab item from car shut door and dash is still on??

If so it will still go off, I do this while cleaning and even if you leave the doors open for longer than about 10mins without the fob in the car it will shut everything off to protect battery drain. If your X5 does not due this take it to the dealer.

Thanks. It’s weird. I don’t like to lock it in garage because it’s a pain. You are correct. If I go to car in garage and open door, then close and don’t loc the dash stays on. It isn’t an issue after I drive home and park, just when I access car later in day.

What you're describing is the car's WAKE mode. Anytime you lift a door handle or unlock the car...there are systems that wake up to prepare the car to be driven. If the car isn't started or no more "calls" are made on certain communication busses...then the car will go back to SLEEP.

BMWs have done this for decades. I don't have the tech docs for the G chassis BMW models...but you can see how it operated back during the e38/e39/e46/e53 era...even though the communication bus has gotten more technical since then...the design architecture is still the same. Back then owners would be all upset because the little orange light next to the gear shift lever was still on...and we had to always reassure them that it was okay. If they came back to the car 16 minutes later and DID NOT lift the door handle or use the remote to lock/unlock the car...if they peeped in the window they would see that the little orange light had gone out. Same goes for you...come back a few minutes later and peep in the window...you'll see that everything has turned off.
