Vibration after fitting new tyres
Hi All,
I have an E90 330i Saloon with type 158 alloys. My rear tyres had worn, so they were replaced for brand new Goodyear Eagle F1 Assym 5. I now have really bad vibration from the rear wheels which I feel in my pants (i.e. through the seat) at 70mph+. The wheels were balanced, although both wheels required a lot of balance weights and were probably not optimally balanced. One wheel could be seen oscillating up and down in the balancing rig when looking at the horizon of the tyre. The vibration was not present with old worn tyres. I am wondering if one of my alloy wheels is buckled/bent which might be causing the problem when new tyres are fitted? Out of interest, where is the best place to buy a new style 158 alloy? I am from the UK. |

You should try what's called RoadForce balance in USA. They don't just spin the wheel with tires and weight, they put on a roller on the tires to see the pushback. I had to replace all 4 new Firestone tires once because they were out of round. Ended up with Continental Extreme Contact Sport.

Get the tires balanced again by a shop that knows what they are doing. I've seen plenty of people run a tire balance machine that have no idea what in the hell they are doing.

^ this, and get a refund on the balancing from the first place if you can. Winds me up when 'technicians' don't know what they're doing! Same with the vast majority of folk who do alignments, seemingly.
