2020 M40i Downpipe B58 options VRSF or Evolution Racewerks

This is for there 2020 M40i B58.

There is a pretty significant price difference in the 2 in my opinion top brands for catted downpipes. VRSF vs Evolution Racewerks. Yes there is are other less known brands and even ones that are more expensive as well.
But for the sake of simplifying it lets stay on the topic of these two brands.

What are some reasons to get one over the other.
I mean I can get a VRSF catted DP add a chargepipe as well and still have a few dollars left over for a gallon of racefuel for the price of 1 ER catted downpipe.
But is the ER that much better to pay a premium? If yes then I am all for it.
Looking for comments as this is driving me nuts.
Also to add I am looking for the "quietest" option of the two.
So if anyone reading this in the future wants the louder option they will also know which way to go as well. Please share your comments.

VRSF is a 200cel and will give you a CEL with no tune. I've done a catted downpipe on my 2020. CEL comes back the next day so if you want quieter I think you'd want whichever has more catalytic material like 300cel or 400cel if possible

Cold starts are stupid loud so be aware. I start up in the morning and immediately put into reverse and stay in reverse or drive to put a small load on the engine to bring the RPM out of the loud area. Also I'll hold the brake with left foot and back out and drive out of my drive with right foot to put more load and change the RPM to keep it quieter.

I have a VRSF catted downpipe for a 340i and the angle of the pipe connecting to the exhaust is slightly off maybe 1* or so. I would assume a pipe meant for a G01 will likely have better fitment but am not sure. The VRSF I got was $400 total which is great because I don't have to worry about blowing it out and being out a lot of money. I could put the factory one back in if I please.

Other than cold start I love the extra sound it produced. In parking garages you can hear the spool when driving through and letting off. Burbles and pops are louder and crisper. Upshift burbles are insanely loud at wide open throttle.

To me at $400 and installing myself I'd say it's worth it for the CEL. I drive my car hard and really enjoy the sound a lot more now too.

Very interesting. This product detail page WRT the ER downpipe also indicates that it's 200 cell, so I assume it would have the same propensity for a CEL.

Evolution Racewerks also uses 200 Cells Cat.
Catted downpipe still may throw CEL.

Quality wise, all I can say you get what you paid for.

I have sold plenty of ER downpipes and installed them here and there. Fitment and quality is very good.
Handmade in the USA.

I know because my shop is not too far from them.

I've made a few exhaust videos throughout the short ownership with my 2020 X3 M40i. Im not trying to plug my YouTube but feel free to check them out. VRSF Catted Downpipe Cold start and some Revs included. All of the videos are in sport plus when revving

I don't have a professional camera or recording equipment but if anyone wants to know anything about the 2020 M40i let me know

Great vids. Subscribed.

And so Im definitely going ER catted, just holding off for the B58 tuners to unlock the DME. Once the cold start quiet option is available it will make sense to jump on this and also have the potential to clear the CEL.

Nice! i recently installed my downpipe as well on my x3. Was expecting a lot more burble but can't get it to burble the way i want even with bootmod3

For the downpipe i went with CTS catless downpipe, had them all in my previous car. Always perfect fitment and no issues.

I'm really surprised that even with bootmod it can't overwrite the DME settings for burble. It should do it no problem if it's changing the fuel maps and overrun setting some decel.. but I'm not a tuner so I don't know anything about how all of this "actually" works

I mean don't get me wrong you can make it loud as hell but it seems to only really burble starting at 4.5+ rpms

All my other bmw in the past would burble honestly at any rpm the higher the louder.

How wild does it get with changing the aggression? I mean I can get some loud burbles and pops and it's definitely more defined and louder with the catted downpipe but the logic from the DME is still the same. Just the noise was affected.

Question on the down pipe (hopefully this is the right place) — what value does the Dow pipe bring? How do you know what is a good one vs bad one?

Higher flow and louder. Think of the catalytic converter as a restriction. Minimize the restriction the and you get more flow and you can use this extra flow with tuning for increased numbers.

That's honestly my main reason for going BM3 is burble customization.

I'd say BM3 definitely has a more agile/DevOps approach as well - Constantly updating their agent, adding new cars, updating maps on old cars. Just my perception from the various tuners I've seen and used.
