Question Experience with OEM N55 spark plugs in the N54 engine?

Hi.

I have been searching posts like crazy since I ordered Bosch ZR5TPP33 spark plugs for my 335i. I have just done the DCI and I plan to MHD Flash (stage1) next week.

So my question is that on the site bmwsparkplugs . com they state that:

"Note that the Bosch plug is actually the N55 OEM plug, which was made one-step colder by BMW after they realized the N54 OEM plugs were a little too hot. These plugs run great on the N54."

I am thinking this is all very good however on the whole internet I cannot find anybody that writes that the Bosch ZR5TPP33 or the ZR5TPP33-S for that matter is a spark plug which indeed is usable with the N54 engine.

Have anybody here used/tried the Bosch ZR5TPP33 / ZR5TPP33-S spark plug with the N54 engine? and if you did please tell if they are working as they should with the N54 engine.

Kind regards
Thomas

The plugs should be fine to use! I heard of other people using them fine, I personally run the NGK 2 step colder plugs but I have a single turbo, the 1 step colder will be great if you are looking to stay with FBO power levels.

Most people either run 1 step or 2 step colder NGK plugs. I would do 2 step colder if you plan on going FBO + E85. Otherwise 1 step is fine.

1 step - NGK 97550

2 step - NGK 97506

I run N55 plugs and they work fine, I tried them at stock gap and didnt have issues for a little while but ended up getting some spark blowout on a custom map, so I gapped them to .020.

If I were doing it again id just put n54 stock plugs back in it, those never gave me issue, custom file or not and no gapping needed for 25k miles.

Really?
So they realized it was a little too hot but continued using it on the N54 Engines all the way to 2016 on the Z4 35is? Mind you they stopped making n55 before 2016 . The B58s were in.

yeah no, the stock plugs are great, id be running stock n54 plugs over anything else even with lots of power until i see a good reason not to

i have spotless logs on a hot 93 and e50 tune with stock plugs that have 25k miles on them

An interesting thing is the proximity of the plug to the spray from the injector. These plugs seem quite specific in terms of reach, how much it sticks out etc

thanks for your comments

Since I have already ordered the N55 spark plugs, I will gap them to 0,022" and install them in my car when I get them.

I will let you all know if I feel any differences or if it misfires etc.

Kind regards
Thomas
