Apex EC-7s arrived
Before all the Covid stuff hit, I entered a group buy on a set of staggered 18s from Apex.
I went 8.5x35 up front and 9.5x43 out back in Anthracite. I put winter tires on my 400Ms so needed summer tires and wheels. I debated tires for some time. Too keep xdrive happy, there are not so many options that would fit with little issues. I went medium width with fingers crossed: 245/45 18 in front and 275/40 18 rear. I went with Firehawk Indy 500s for balance of price, performance, and availability in case of need to replace. Also, they are asymmetrical but non-directional so side to side rotation can happen. For ease of swaps, and just in case small spacers would be required, I went with Motorsport hardware 60mm studs and titan lugs. TPMS sensors from *********. VIN checked and thought to plug and play. The shop that mounted and balanced the wheels noted that several times they had to initialize and program the TPMS on BMWs, and got me nervous because they start with them off of the wheel, and the whole thing would be several hundred bucks. I took a chance and just had the tires mounted and took everything home. Stud install was easy, used two lug nuts to toque to spec with red loctite. Mounted new wheels. Fronts no issue. Rears were actually the tightest at the inner front fenderwell about mid tire. About a 1/4" clearance. No issue with struts or anything else. Started car, entered icontrol tpms reset mode, started driving. All reset just fine. No temp readings, but psi just fine. I will post some pics with a clean car and no rain. I'm pretty happy at stock ride height I don't mind the fender gap. I think if I went with a wider tire combo more tinkering would be in store, but these were bolt on. -PJ |
