Lightbulb DIY: OEM CF front lip install

Very easy to install, all you need is a 8mm socket.
1st = Use the 3m tape that is provided to mount on the Carbon fiber
2nd = remove 2bolts under the front bumper
3rd - lined it up to the bumper and install and follow by installing the 2 bolts back on.
Here is some pics of the install, CF lips felt cheap(lips itself is so thin) but the weave on the lips is flawless.
PS sorry for the not so good write-up

Is the 3m tape that you apply to the inner surface of the CF splitters double sided?

If so, when you stick the CF splitters over the bottom trim piece, is it easy to guide into the proper place? I would imagine that if the tape is double sided, you can't just stick it on and try to slide the CF splitter to its proper location.

If it's not double sided, what is the point of the 3m tape? Thanks.

Its not a double side tape, so I am guessing its there to protect your paint. Its easy to guide in place and, the fitment is very tight and the 2 bolts on the bottom is good enough to hold it in place.

The BMW instructions actually say you must mount the tape to the cars bumper first, then put the adhesive on the tape and then put the splitters on

Its so if you ever want to remove them, the tape will come off the original bumper without damaging it like the adhesive would have if its applied directly to the paint

E90Fleet,

Where did you see these instructions, and is there any way you can get a copy onto this forum?? I'm sure we'd all love to see as many of these proper installation instructions as possible!! That way our DIYs can clarify certain parts and provide handy tips for others...

Official instructions are in the DIY forum. Look for the threads with the green arrow next to it. There are official instructions for aluminum pedals, alarm install, CF lip, rear spoiler lip, sirius radio, and aluminated sidesills.

Here's the direct link to the CF lip install instructions:

How do you feel about the carbon fiber add ons? I see that you say that they are pretty thin and that was a concern of mine so now I am wandering do you think they would crack/ shatter if a rock was to hit them?

Does anyone have any idea how much one of these lips cost? Only 18 hours old, our E90 met an unfortunate incident with a kerbstone.. I'm in the UK, but any rough price will do.. thank you

Check Circle BMW (www.circlebmw.com) or Pacific BMW (www.pacificbmw.com). These two dealers usually have the best price on factory parts.

These CF lips were not installed correctly, I would urge people to read the factory DIY pdf (http://www.e90post.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1910). Those 3m onesided stickers are to be placed on your car to protect your paint from the adhesive that needs to be used. Its the 3m stickers on the car, then the betalink adhesive then the cf lip. Its glued in place and taped on till it dries in 6 hours. Chris

Whats the purpose of these carbon fiber lips? Is it just cosmetic? Can they be bought in Titanium Silver?
