YAMBB (Yet another Marina Bay Blue) X5M Competition
![]() Featured on BIMMERPOST.com Wrote a long thread in X5 ordering forum about my failed X5 M50i order that turned into an X5MC, so I will bare anyone with the details of my ordering process but just to share my (early) thoughts on the beast ![]() The X5MC is also an HEA order, which means MBB+Black Merino+Exec+DAP+B&W just like everyone else. Very well equipped and exactly like how I would order it except maybe Silverstone interior and 818M wheels. Got a decent discount (11% off) so pretty happy with the purchase. This is also my first "true blood' M and first new BMW that's not custom ordered ![]() Had it for a little over a week and close to 400 miles so far. Still early but already loving it! I'm finding every excuse to get out now... Below are some notes I have been taken over the past week. Exterior * The stance is very aggressive, love the M grille, looks a lot cleaner than standard X5 grille. * Staggered wheels are odd. Only one option is available on Tirerack (summer tire). * Love the 4-out REAL exhaust tips. Personnally don't like the trapezoid exhuast shape for M performance models. * MBB color is perfect, with a hint of purple sometimes. This is my 4th blue BMW (Carbon Black, Estoril Blue, Mediterranean Blue, now Marina Bay Blue), see the pattern? * Got tint all around, 50% Llumar CTX on windshield, 15% Llumar CTX on front side windows, 80% Llumar Air on rear side and back windows * Comfort access is pretty smart, but need to make sure key is stored further enough from the car * Rear door opening is pretty narrow. Don't remember it was this narrow in F15. Still a bit high for my 5-yr old to climb up. Interior * A lot of M details. M-colored safety belt, M stitch on steering wheels and shifter. * Alcantara roof is a nice touch. Merino leather super soft. And most importantly, no wrinkle on rear seats ![]() * Massage function works pretty well, made my rear less numb after 5-hour drive * Missing the travel & comfort system on the back of front seats. Was planning on mounting a retired iPad there for the kid. * Front seats are pretty comfortable, don't feel too hard like review claimed. * iDrive 7 very different from 6, still learning where each option is. I'm more used to controller than touchscreen, but feels like iDrive 7 is designed from ground up to be "touch first", resulting more clicks using the controller * Some black buttons are matte (seat memory buttons) some black buttons are shiny (around iDrive controller). Shiny buttons don't have the best tactile feeling (especially those around shifter area) * No overheating in wireless charging tray (iPhone 11 Pro) * Widescreen CarPlay looks cool, but honestly is wasting screen space and looks more pixelated in Waze for example. * Light-up seat M logo is pretty cheesy but looks cool... * B&W is noticeably better than HK. Better bass and clearer vocal. Bet half the option cost went to the illuminated speaker grilles for sure. * Got G05 X5 rubber floor mat and trunk liner, hopefully no figment issue. * Armrest storage is pretty deep, but hard to keep things organized. Bought an organizer off Amazon that works very well. Drive * Assisted drive is pretty good. Spent 300 miles on ACC. Lane change is super smooth, but require hands on steering wheel. Cannot handle sharper turns. Stay in the middle of the lane very well. * Exhaust sounds amazing! Especially with valve open compared to M550i which is pretty quiet. * Interior is pretty quiet when cruising on highway, even without acoustic glass. * Accelerate effortlessly, if not using ACC very easy to hit three digits. * Corners flat. Though the high center of gravity still doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. * Suspension is best described as "tight". Comfort mode is equivalent or stiffer than M550i in Sport. Maybe caused by larger wheels since the M550 had 19". The suspension does filter out small road imperfections quite well, so highway cruising you won't feel the car being "busy". * Averaged ~20MPG on the first drive - all highway and minimum traffic around 80MPH. * 93 is recommended and 91 is minimum. 93 is not very common around here so may have to use 91 often. * Speedometer is very accurate, only off by 1mph, compared to previous BMWs which are off by ~3mph at 80mph. Issues/Annoyances * Weird issue, one side DRL stayed on after locking the car on day 2. Restart engine then shutoff solved it. * B&W grilles does not light up until music plays. It's by design but I just wasn't aware. Thought it's not working. * Shifter won't reset itself after changing from R to P. * Soft-close feature is rarely noticed since the doors are pretty heavy and with the weight they will shut directly. Wish the door has hinge that can stop at any position. * Speed limit assist is quite complex. Too many different modes and icons that are not that intuitive... Read manual twice already. Plan to do: * Side reflectors change to body color * Xpel Stealth PPF (waiting for Xpel to update patterns for X5MC) * Maybe lowering? Attachment 2316470

Thanks! MBB is an easy color to photograph. IMO monotone colors (black/white/grey) are more challenging since they reflect surrounding environments a lot.
