Hi all,

I'm new to the forum, so firstly hello!

I'm currently in a G30 520d SE (company car), and think I'm about to push the button to order the new 3 as my personal car.

I'm mostly drawn to the 320i M-Sport, as it will keep the list cost below £40k (after the options I want) to avoid the ridiculous road tax surcharge, but have a couple of questions to any owners:

1) What's your real-world economy? Appreciate I won't get the same as my 520d, but if it's not a million miles off that will probably firm up my decision.

2) Adaptive suspension - I've driven an standard M-sport car, and a car with the adaptive suspension (albeit not back to back), and I couldn't really notice a huge amount of difference. Anyone else got views on this?

Thanks in advance!

Is a good read. Compares passive and adaptive suspension. Unfortunately not on the 320i.

I've got a 20 plate 320i M sport as a company car and I cover 5,000 miles per month.

I travelled 400 miles yesterday (mainly motorway) doing 75 with cruise control. The car claimed 43.9mpg. Around town this drops to mid 30s.

I don't have adaptive suspension, but the test car BMW gave me for a week prior to purchase did. In comfort it's quite a bit softer and less bouncy. Previously it's been almost law to tick the adaptive option if you were slightly concerned by ride comfort. But the new G20 std M Sport is defo an improvement in that dept and most would say it's no longer a must have option.

I'd rather have the HK audio option than adaptive suspension if budget constraints are a consideration

I've only had my 330e M Sport a week so not managed to get an excuse to head out on the fantastic local roads (the Peak District) just yet. But mine feels pretty good around our fairly crappy town roads on 18s and non-adaptive dampers. Certainly not like M Sport models of old that used to be backbreakers on the sport suspension.

Interesting - I was hoping you may see high 40's on a motorway run, especially at those sort of speeds.

HK is already in the list of options - I've got it on my 5 and it's one of the things I just couldn't live without.

Fuel consumption figures at different speeds, 50mph/62mph/75mph/87mph/99mph/112mph/124mph

Starts from 11:02

Acceleration test and V max at the end of the video ,147mph.

I've done just under 10k miles now. Mainly town +A roads commute to work 9 miles each way. Avarge fuel consumption is just under 40mpg.

I have non adaptive M Sport suspension, 18" alloys.
It's alright I think.

Forgot to mention I'm on 20" wheels, so maybe costing me 1or2 mpg.

High 40s is unlikely though.

The price of petrol today compared to diesel 4 months ago is a real leveller

Oh, and the blue stitching option is well worth it if you can. Makes a big difference

Yeah that's a good point - plus the car is over £40 a month cheaper, coupled with keeping it under the £40k price for tax would probably even it out. I'd only be doing 15k Miles a year max.

Obviously fuel prices fluctuate, but at 15k per year there's really not gonna be a great deal in it.

I've driven diesel for years and getting back in a petrol is a delight. It's almost like an EV it's so quiet and smooth

I got my 19 plate 320i M Sport+ a week before lockdown so like many others I've not had opportunity to go any great distance. The most I'm doing is about 10 miles a day when I'm working, three or four days a week, averaging about 34-35 mpg. It has the adaptive plus 19" wheels, I put it into adaptive as soon as I start, seems to smooth out the bumps better than comfort, certainly at low speeds. Would've liked 360 cameras but not too bothered, adaptive cruise would've also been nice but again haven't been anywhere so not missing it!

On my regular 220 miles almost all motorway run with Driver Assist set at 70mph my 330i returns over 50mpg every time. As did my f34 328.

Day to day driving on domestic duties returns mid twenties.

Obviously anything that is driven really hard you can half those figures!

That's really impressive - most of my driving will be at 60-70mph across the A69. As long as I could get over 45mpg regularly I think it would outweigh getting a diesel.

You can't get m sport suspension for 330e, it always comes with the default suspension. If you opt for adaptive m sport suspension, it will not be the lowered one with all the other models.

330e certainly long lead in time. Mine was ordered 25th November and, I believe, left the factory yesterday. Still got to get to dealer and then me so another 3 weeks at least! About 33 - 34 weeks.

Interesting, I ordered my 330e in the beginning of April, and agreed with dealer that it would be my2021 build, and he booked a build slot for beginning of July. Just got confirmation that build week is week 28, and it will be here in Finland week 32. So around 4 months, but dealer said that I could get it earlier if I didn't want to wait for my2021.
