Car Seat Comfort Poll

Curious how many people are having issues with their seat. Some common complaints include:

1. Too hard/pressure points.
2. Can't find a comfortable position.
3. Stitching sticks out.
4. Gas pedal position and/or angle.

The poll is private but please only select one seat option and one gas pedal option. I hope I captured everything. Feel free to add comments about what is precisely bothering you. Thanks.

Here are my issues:
1. Seat is too hard/pressure points.
2. Gas pedal angle. Although the exact reason is kind of speculative. I think it's multi-faceted in terms of the gas pedal being floor attached versus top attached and the angle.

I found the gas pedal angle is a bit odd and adjusted my seating around it since I picked up from PCD.

Just hit 4K miles since picking it up in December. Otherwise Luxury-Seating Package Merino: YES they are comfortable BUT firm. Same with full Merino in my M550i though I do notice the stiff leather piping more.

I'm a cyclist with large thighs and don't notice seat cushion pressure points where indicated - and room to shift around in. My seat cushion angle is flat and seat height high since I'm short. The mocha Nappa comfort seats in my F15 were butt soft comfortable - those were the best.

Overall comfortably supportive yet firm. I use the massage function every time I get in and willing to give it up for softer seats, LOL.

I think the biggest issue with the gas pedal is the floor attachment. When we press the pedal on a floor-attached pedal, we have to use our lower-leg muscle a lot more. We’re having to rotate our foot forward to apply force.

For a top-attached gas pedal, we’re pushing our entire leg forward, which is more upper-leg and lower-back muscles. It’s easier to push than rotate the foot for force.

I think this is the reason why it’s uncomfortable. A way to help, I believe, is to increase the angle as shown in my photo.

Are our pedals adjustable?

Not that I'm aware of. I'm used to the floor mounted accelerator in BMWs. Now that I think about it, it might be the more the distance from accelerator to brake pedal for me... can't seem to "put my foot" on it - what's different but it's less of an issue now since I've had more time behind the wheel and will fiddle with my seat and steering wheel height adjustment minutely from day to day.

My experience may be the product of the fact that my daily driver is a 3 series which has pretty uncomfortable seats. So whenever I do get into the X5 with the merino leather and luxury seating package (while riding on air suspension and 20" wheels) I feel like I'm being coddled by angels as I glide through the heavens.

Never noticed any issues with the pedals.

UK car, but you're spot on. my right thigh hurts where the lower seat swab cuts into it due to offset angle of Gas (accelerator) pedal. I'm fit, active, healthy and bang on what my weight should be, suffering from right hip and thigh issues since G series (G30 in particular) was delivered. Ive now had 3 G30's and now the G05. Too early to say just yet but I'm thinking the G05 merino Comfort(multi contour in the US) is comfier than the G30 Nappa Comfort. although for the life of me i can't understand, for an SUV which you have to slide out of due to height why they kept the raised lower seat bolsters? would of thought a flatter design would of made more sense?

Yeah I’m sorry I can’t edit the poll. I didn’t realize there were M Vernasca seats; I thought they were all Merino. You can place your vote in the M Sport nonetheless if you don’t mind?

In the US at least, there are no MSport seats in the G05. The only seats available are the standard sport seats and the multi-contour seats (with and without ventilation and/or massage).

I find the Merino front seats in the G05 slightly softer and more comfortable than the Valcona in my Q7, which was actually quite good. Massage feature in the G05 is less intrusive (and quieter) also. Rear seats in the G05 are slightly less comfortable (and unadjustable in mine).

The merino seats are way softer in the G05 than the nappa leather seats in the F15. I thought I loved the nappa leather until these seats. Not sure how sporty they are but for comfort, I am quite pleased.

No you don't unless you perhaps bought it in Europe and had it shipped here. In the US the only seats available in the G05 are 481 - Sport seats and 456 - Multi-Contour seats.

So far 51 people responded. Of the 51 people who responded, 6 reported seat discomfort. This represents approximately 12% of the respondents.

The gas pedal response is even more telling. Of the 14 people who responded 5 reported issues or 36%.

Both percentages are high in my opinion. Assuming these numbers are representative or correlative of the X5 population as a whole (not likely, but lets assume for academic purposes), if 50,000 are sold, 6,000 people will have seat discomfort issues and 18,000 people will hate the gas pedal position/angle. That's a lot of potentially unhappy customers if you ask me. Whoever did their ergonomics and designed and/or manufactured the seats did a poor job based on these numbers.

Breakdown by category:
Base: 2 responded, 0 reported discomfort
Multi-Contour: 23 responded, 4 reported discomfort or 17%
Luxury Seating: 20 responded, 1 reported discomfort or 5%
Vernasca: 21 responded, 3 reported discomfort or 14%.
Merino: 30 responded, 3 reported discomfort or 10%

Please continue to vote if you haven't already done so.

BMW Luxury Seating with Merino are comfortable to a degree, S class and LS have the absolutely BEST seats bar none, more comfortable than those in a Phantom or Mulsanne.

A huge issue with BMW seats is they try to maintain the BMW look of the how the thigh extender works, thus creates pressure points due to the empty space. The only time they did it right was on F10 M5, which is how Benz and Lexus do their thigh extenders: the right way!

Your sticker is correct but your interpretation is not. The sport seats are the standard seats in the X5, they are 481.

LOL Nice try buddy but you are absolutely wrong. You have the standard seats which are 481 sport seats. The fact that you have chosen the MSport package has nothing to do with your seats.

They are still not on the list above.

But hey, go ahead and reply.
69th car and yet you still have things to learn. The reason it is not on the poll is because the seats do not exist. LOL
