Had to do it X5M Comp LONG READ
I've already posted on the X5M forum about my new purchase of a 2021 X5M Comp in beautiful Toronto Red, but I thought I'd share my thoughts here coming from the 2019 X5 50i.
Story: I been looking for a M8 Comp convertible, since you cannot order I've been hunting (not willing to travel states away just for a car) and just couldn't find the exact spec that I wanted. I'm not going to compromise on 150k sports car. I pretty much gave up a couple weeks ago thought I'd get something else. Fast forward the sale rep I was working with calls me late Friday night (9pm'ish), I did not answer I was in a tournament (gamer). Saturday morning at 8am he calls and texts me photo's, that caught my attention. So after I said no the wife said yes we are going to go at least look at it and maybe drive it. First thing I did was ask him why all the calls!! He said they had two other potential buyers lined up but he thought I should check it out. Basically what they did but haven't admitted too order exactly what I wanted on an M8 in the X5M Comp.... LOL He stayed late on Friday to watch it come off the truck and move it to a corner of the parking lot so no one would see it first thing in the am, until I got a chance. He moved it up not even clean and plastic everywhere just before I arrived. Quickly gave me the keys and said to test drive. As soon as the wife and I got in it was love at first sight. The interior not radically different but enough to make it feel like a completely different SUV. Well since this was the only one they had coming and first 2021 they have sold there wasn't much discounts, I got basically $2500 off MSRP. They gave me just shy of 63k for the 50i which I thought was fair paid 76k new. I also got back the prorated amount for wheel tire, extended warranty $7900 and just rolled that off the top of the new one. Addon's for the M is wheel tire, PPF, ceramic tint all around, extended maintenance. All that for just shy of 7k. So basically the refund of the first covered this stuff. The X5M Comp has every option that you can select on the build your own, so no need to list those its everything. First impressions: (keep in mind this is about two days of driving and 1 night) Power/Handling; Of coarse this is an insane beast, power and handling over the 50i is just insane. The sound is killer and I think with down pipes this will be crazy. My 50i did not have DHP but was an Msport. I thought it was great but now that I have the M comp I don't think I'll ever be able to go back to standard suspension, this big SUV acts like its on rails. Currently cannot really push the power it won't let me, throttle cuts out and track mode is disabled until 1200 mile service is complete. Lights; I came from the upgraded LED lights on the 50i to laser lights on the M. Laser lights hands down better. I know only drove one night with them but been driving the same dark roads out to the home and can tell you right away big difference. I was shocked honestly. I didn't by into the laser tech stuff at first. Seats; First thing is first, I have to take back what I said about seat ventilation on the BMW. I said they suck and don't work very well. Okay thats not totally wrong but mostly is. The seat ventilation works very well after a bit of time in the vehicle (20mins). At first they do not do anything at all but over time you can really feel them working, so yeah I'd buy them again. On the 50i I had very nice seats but these ones are better for holding you in place and just as if not more comfortable so far. Heated/Cooled cup holders; Like I said before they really aren't that good and not worth buying if you build one yourself. TECH: Android auto works fine, not sure how much I'll actually use it yet. I love how the ASS feature is off by default, no more pressing button for me. The self driving stuff is amazing. I have never been one to think about buying that or having it but been using it a lot so far, it works very well right now. I used it on the freeways here in AZ only so far. Changing lanes is cool as well. Not having a comfort mode is strange but totally understand why, the efficient mode is like my 50i in sport, and the M1 mode is like the 50i in sport plus, can't wait to see what the track mode is like . B&O system is by far amazing. I had the HK and loved it but this B&O is on another level. Overall the i drive7 is better as well. Now its hard to put information in for this one but I'll try. So setting my 50i up was a pain at first getting the card to work and things like that.... Well first off I loged in and with my driver profile and basically most things were auto setup for me. My phone pairs faster, the card setup was like it should be, its faster screen to screen and changing to different setting menus. There are more options (might just be the level of tech compared)... Overall I'd say this is how the Idrive7 always should have been.

Fantastic. I totally get it. It’s the year to go all out on a Halo car.
I will mirror your observations with the newer iDrive, DHP, and B&W. Wait until you fine tune the eq and the B&W speakers break in. It’s easily one of the (if not THE) best audio system in the industry. DHP totally hides the weight of these SUV’s like nothing you can sum up easily. How do you like the adaptive driving view on the instrument cluster?? |

The adaptive driving view is very nice and accurate. If there is a semi it shows it or a bus kinda nice.

On a different car theme for me, my M2 Competition goes in for its first M service so I stop holding back and let the revs fly. FYI: get a good radar detector. Last edited by MystroX5; 08-30-2020 at 08:42 PM.. |

Car looks incredible, but tell me a little more about that license plate.... How'd you get that matrix design? Is that one of the options for vanity plates in Arizona?

I love the new ride. Awesome. Heck, I liked your old ride. I cannot imaging kicking a 2019 X5 50i to the curb. Good for you.
Love the license plate too. Glad you could transfer. It fits your old and your new ride. Perfect! Last edited by sygazelle; 08-31-2020 at 10:28 AM.. |

Thanks! Yes it is an optional vanity plate here in AZ. I also donate to the Science center which is what that plate supports. Plus I'm a big nerd and the binary actually is 50 because it was on my 50i. Not sure what to do now. Not sure how many people out there would figure it out anyway.

Great looking ride. Interesting how you fell into an X5M Comp.
My build arrived at the dealership last week but is being held because of the gas tank pressure issue. Donnington Gray / All Black interior with all the options. There was one screw up on the build. It was the wheels. Came in with the wheels you have on yours. I was expecting the other wheel option with the Comp and that is the more edgy brighter wheel. Are you aware of the other wheels and if so are you glad you have the ones that your beauty came with? I'm having to make the adjustment as there is no way to make the change after delivery. I checked out a Black Comp with the same wheels as your ride and they just seemed to get lost in the scheme. Red looks great and congrats - hopefully they will free the vehicle up so I can start living my dreams. |

If you are talking 808 series wheels, I'm not very fond of those ones. The 818's I have catch my eye. I think it blends in well with the design overall. I've also had probably 4 or 5 people ask me what aftermarket set that is, which kinda took me off guard. I'm a person that will typically just replace with aftermarket but BMW has me sold on their designs and I will say the 818's are by far my favorite. If you are wanting the wheels to stand out more though the 808 are the way to go, it just to me makes it have too much contrast but that is just my taste. Don't think you can go wrong with either.

Let me know once you spend sometime with them if they do grow on you. I didn't know but they also come on the M4 Comp too and look damn good on that.
