Took my Xi to Watkins Glen this weekend

Great day, ran HPDE class 2 with my E90 335Xi. First time running this car on a race track and also first time running with my JB3 tune. Still had the factory runflats on, not bad but the car under-steered and could use something bigger than 225's up front. I am probably going to a square set-up with 245's all around. Brakes were surprisingly good. Oil temp only hit 250
( have factory oil cooler) but temperature only in 40-50's so maybe not a hard challenge.

The JB3 gave me all the power I could use, hit 135 in the back straight and 124 in the front, unfortunately I was sliding more than I would like on the turns.
Still working on my driving skills......

JB3 gives this car more power than the M3's present ( although modded Corvettes are a different matter).

Very pleasantly surprised by this car.

Not yet, but should have some photo's later.

A friend's girlfriend was taking some telephoto shots and PDA ( which ran the event) had a photo company working the site: www.trackphotos.com but these are not up yet for the event ( which was finishing today). I ran on 10-4-08 and had a black 335Xi sedan with 55 as my number.

I was running a show wheel/tire setup. Simply aweful for the track (265/30/19 & 235/35/19 on GY F1 GS-D3 for track). I went to a square setup on 17's, 245/40/17 and was bloody happy. Dunlop Dirrezza Z1 SS. F'n awesome. Understeer was almost gone. Tried dropping pressure up front a pound or so to no avail, but will try to adjust with the KWv3 stiffness next event - which is Oct 25/26 at Watkins Glen. So friggin close on the balance - Not sure which way to go. Softer setting up front or Softer in the back a click or two.

If I could make one recommendation, it would be to disable the JB3 on track. Until you get to the higher run groups, the best way to drop time is to tighten the screw behind the wheel. I have a completely stock engine and have blown by Corvettes, M3s, etc. in the same run group. Switch out those tires for something like 245/40/17 all around on non-RFT like Bridgestone Potenza RE01R or Dunlop Direzza Z1 SS. Good job on getting it on track though, keep it up!

I agree. My JB2 is off. 245/17 all around. The Z1's are a huge step up. The only thing passing me was the odd S5 and M3's.

Thanks for the comments.
I understand that I have to practice.. practice.. practice first to learn to drive better. Luckily, still in the steep part of the learning curve and improving each time I go out.

The square 245's all around sounds like where I need to go to track this car.
Will set that up next year.... this was going to be the family sedan.

Like I said, was pleasantly surprised (read a lot of the complaints on stock handling in the other sections with the Xi). Have considered the KW's, but
worried that the ride would get harsher in normal usage. I know they are adjustable, just not sure how much... the softest equal to stock?

The softest setting is pretty soft - almost as soft of stock. I'm set 2 clicks harder rear from middle setting, and 1 click harder from middle setting on the fronts. I bottom out frequently on these shit Montreal roads, but this is still softer than my 350Z stock.
