YAZ - yet another zaino question

After years of Zymol then Blitz, I'm on my first go round with Zaino... and what a perfect day it is for that here in cheeseland - cloudy with low humidity, about 70º.

After doing a Dawn wash, the initial Z2+ZFX coat is drying as I type. Wanted to force myself not to over apply and mixed up one-half of the ZFX vials. Using the lightly moistened terry applicator I managed to do the entire car with the 1/2 vial.

Does that amount sound about right for an E90? TIA

Ok all done ... guess I'm talkin' to myself here . Doesn't take much - a very thin coat seemed to work fine. Turns out that 1/2 vial, (approx. 1oz) of Z2+ZFX (4 drops) does an entire E90 with just barely enough left over to do the 162 wheels. I did two coats to start, each in their own mix. It came off very easily - easier than carnauba. Followed the first coat with the Z6, and the second with the Z8. Barely open the sprayers on the Z6/8 to get a fine mist.

Then a nice little drive on some winding back roads through farm country. Back in the garage the few bugs that were picked up practically slid off with just a glance of a cotton towel.

So.... on first trial it looks like this Zaino stuff is A-OK. Can't say its shinier than Zymol but certainly not less, is shinier than Blitz, and hopefully lasts longer than either. Two things I *really* liked: a) no chalky mess on rubber, and b) Zaino did a great job on the plastic(?) head and tail lights!

I'll add one more coat tommorrow, Sonax the rubber, Vinylx the interior, Griot the tires, and Scotchgard the carpets. Whew!

Y'all have a good 4th of July!

Zaino is the cats ass! I won't even consider anything else anymore. The first couple times you apply it you will think your not using enough, but fight the urge! A little really does go a long way. As for getting any on the black parts (like body molding) peanutbutter will help get that out very easily.

I only use a few drops of zxf. It sounds like your using a bit much.

I too spent the weekend doing the Z-thing. Not sure if it was jsut me or what (I'm asking my distributor) but I did the Dawn/clay/zfx-z2/z6/z8 on the first day (my fingertips started to bleed) then the next morning I started with coat two of zfx/z2. I also used just the amount stated above, and had trouble because I couldn't really see any haze.
I had a bad experience though, while wiping that second coat off the hood it was getting all gummed in the cloth and scratched the hood. The only thing I can tell is that it's the same color as the cloth I used for the z8. I used about 3 cloths to take off the second coat, because I kept getting this peach/brown clumpy mess and didn't want to ruin the whole thing.

It's all that on the shine, but I'm witholding the bag of chips for now. z8 smelled much better than z2/z6.

Use different cloths to remove Z2 and apply Z6 or Z8. I have about 30 towels I use for my Zaino days and only use one or two per product. Doesn't sound as though you Z2 was cured completely but then again using the same towel may have been the problem.

Hahahaha 30 towels? Every time I think I've worked up the nerve to do the damn Zaino job on my car somebody says something like this that totally turns me off.

And those are all made in the U.S.A. cotton towels? That's like $200 on towels. Sheesh.

I don't use that many towels so don't let that turn you off!

I had washed my towels (no dye/fragrance liquid detergent) overnight. I just remembered the color of the towel from the night before when I put the Z8 on the car. The second coat, I used about 4 towels to wipe off the Z2, but it only took 1 for the first coat.

Maybe it wasn't dry all the way?? Humidity can make a difference to drying time. A super thin coat seemed to work fine - on my TiAg it was hard to see the haze straight-on, but looking at the panels at a low angle told me it was there.

I needed just one large fluffy towel to remove one coat. Three small hand cloths were enough to do a coat of Z6 applied with as fine a mist as I could get the sprayer to do. The applicator is good for 2-3 coats then I toss it.

While there are multiple steps I found them easier and less time consuming than carnauba.

Not much humidity here in The 'nard. I had done the finger test thingy to see that it was dry. It had been on for maybe 45 minutes, and I used ZFX. I guess at least I had been wiping in straight lines front to back on the hood, so it's not as noticeable to anyone but myself.

You don't need 30 towels, I just happen to have that many. I bought a couple here and there when I found a good buy. Don't be turned off, you can do it with two if you want, I just don't have to wash my towels out as much. Besides, your a recent grad (college) if memory serves me right, once you've been around the block a few more times you'll acquire more crap too

Having been around that block a few times, I'll aver one can never have too many good car towels. I always carry a couple in the car and a couple in the trunk. When driving leisurely, I keep a small towel on the arm rest so it doesn't build up oil from my skin, which will happen over time without it. Towels are handy for those occasional untidy moments. With your extra towels, consider carrying a small spritzer of detailing spray to address the occasional spot of bird crap or other hazard.

Zaino Products opinion

Some of you may enjoy reading a rather lengthy post I wrote on another thread.
