Xdrive and Rotalla
Anyone used this brand on xdrive?
Am I right in thinking xdrive only like high end stared tyres? Or am I safe with 4 new tyres all the same brand abs tread pattern etc. |

Rotalla RU01 S Pace has been rated as the worst 18" tire tested by ADAC, and among the worst in other recent comparison tests performed by reputable German media. What makes you want to fit such a bad tires on a great car?
No, you don't need star spec tires for x-drive. |

Never cheap out with your tires, xDrive or not.

Thanks for the replies, what about the 19" tyres?
Where can I find a link to see these. In the UK they have lots of good reviews, but most of us drive round on budgets ha |

Thanks for the replies.
Yeah those rotalla look awful! My wheels are the 403m 19" 225/40 and 255/40 Am I still right that they just need to be 4 of the same brand and model of tyres? Currently have 4 PS4S, but down to 3-3.8mm all round |

I would highly recommend a matched set of tires. You can get into some strange handling behaviors on mis-matched tires. With xDrive you want the same tread depth and tires which will wear at a similar rate to ensure the circumference stays similar through the life of the tires.

You currently have one of the best tyres on the market on your car. At 3mm plus they will still be performing well, Michelin develop their tyres to keep performing at lower tread depths (I acknowledge they can't defy the laws of physics though; in standing water their aquaplaning speed clearly won't be as good as when they were new with 6+ mm of tread depth) I would suggest holding off for a few weeks, save up more money if needs be, and buy a top brand again. You don't have to have PS4S, the PS4 has slightly better wet braking than the PS4S at the expense of dry grip. It is also slightly cheaper. https://www.tyrereviews.com/Article/...-Tyre-Test.htm Last edited by Techno 9000; 08-28-2021 at 02:09 AM.. Reason: Link to independent tyre test |

Yeah sorry, 35 is what I meant.
Yeah these tyres are great tyres even with lower tread level, only issue is they are less than 3 years old and just starting to perish. Previous owner used to do 10-15k miles a year. I do max 4K ha, so more tempted by midrange. Plus it's only a 320ix with Racechip, so only 210-220bhp. Looking for some good mid range tyres with safe wet performance. Tempted by TOYO proxy, or GT radial or Matador MP47 |

You've already got the best advices possible - don't cheap out on tires.
While the gaps between cheaper and expensive tires are in general smaller than few years ago, the difference is still big. The important thing to understand is it doesn't make much sense economically either, as the best tires on the market are typically best also in tread wear. Your current PS4S are one of the best UHP tires on the market, and also have top notch longevity. Tires as Matador Hectorra is a joke in direct comparison, Toyo Proxes Sport is horrible wet performer... If you want tires that last more, you have to sacrifice quite a lot in performance and handling, and go to lower class of more eco oriented tires (as Primacy 4). As mentioned by Techno 9000 above, you do not need the most expensive tires; especially if wet performance is the most important. Still, I recommend tires from the holy trinity of manufacturers - Continental, Michelin, Goodyear. While my choice for wet is Eagle F1 Asymmetric 5, you can't go wrong with either ContiPremiumContact6 or PS4. If you want a cheaper tire, get the FK510. Falken did an excellent job with this tire, it's very good in the wet, the reported wear is also among the best in the class, and it's extremely well rounded tire not failing in any criteria. |

Hi DG.
My PS4 tyres (that are two years old) are showing signs of what might be termed 'perishing' where the tread meets the sidewall. It's like micro cracks and, in my opinion, just cosmetic. If yours is like mine I wouldn't be changing the tyres for another set with (far) poorer performance. |

Will take a look for those flakens. Hard to get lots of choice in the UK. Regardless of sites I always seem to find the usual bunch that appear.
Interesting Techno 9000 has same signs of wear. Any thoughts on Avon tyres? |
