bimmertech audio upgrade

anyone have experience with the bimmertech upgraded amp? https://www.bimmer-tech.net/speakers...BoCLPsQAvD_BwE

Not sure what system am getting when I take delivery of my 2022 X5 soon but expect it won't be great. Thinking if I should buy the amp but want to know if there truly is a good difference that makes it worth it. Also be good to know if it is very easy to install as represented.

There is a massive discussion here on upgrading the base HiFi sound on the G05. Many say a Amp upgrade alone is the best option. Others say speakers first. I've done neither but interested so following....

https://g05.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh....php?t=1830327

Generally there are Three nuances I'm reading:
1. The upgrade process for 45e vs. other X5's is different. (not sure on the exacts yet...just FYI).
2. The speaker upgrade alone has a repercussion of needing to crank the VOL UP really high to hear it as good?
3. The AMP upgrade has the repercussion of making your blinkers and all vehicle bells/warnings really loud.
- I gather there are fixes for #2 & #3, but it's not straight forward...

Amp and/or subs are more involved. Speakers are more straight forward. I was a bit skeptical about just upgrading the speakers. After some reading/watching, I decided to do the upgrade. It's more than adequate for me now. I don't feel the need for sub/amp (yet) If you end up doing amp, you may want to swap out the speakers as well. As you see, they look pretty bad compared to the Bavsound's.

I am getting a 45e so good to know it requires different considerations. Clearly I don't need to go deaf from beeps and bells. Will research a bit more

Info on your other post was excellent - thanks for that. I will likely use a professional installer am so not good at any DIY stuff (as in my hands can be as lethal as a WMD on most things).

I recommend getting these speakers/subwoofer if upgrading the HiFi system and you will notice a very significant improvement. You can find them for about $1000 from a European distributor. Not shown in the picture is the second subwoofer.

IMHO, upgrading the speakers is the best bang for the buck and makes a big difference.

On YouTube Paul McGowan, from PS Audio talks about which component you should upgrade first…Paul has been in the audio business for a long time and highly respected

Just replacing the door speakers will improve the highs and mid range clarity. Which to me is the biggest problem with the HiFi system.

For G05, yes, it's best bang for the bucks, esp with plug and play speakers. I wouldn't say in general though. Any hardward upgrade (source, processor/amp, speaker, isolation or even better wire quality) will improve sound quality. How much one will provide is dependent on the other ones' quality imo. I was skeptical going with just the speakers for the G05 because with G05 HiFi I had to play at least 70-75% to get an adequate sound. So I thought the issue might be due to the head unit or lack of amplification. But when seeing the speakers, it's obvious that the weak link is here. Even so, some still feel the need for amplification.

I read that Sub 2 will need a new sub amp and Sub4 was meant to work with the stock hifi amp. True? If so what is your plan to power the sub?

I also wonder if the under-seat subs are all equally junk vs a bigger trunk sub and thus, is the under-seat sub upgrade very marginal.

Sub 2 is 2 Ohm, as are the stock subs. Sub 4 is the same thing but 4 Ohm, which will still work w/the OEM amp but because it has 2x higher resistance it will roughly reduce the sub power/volume by 2x. So... it doesn't make sense to install it w/the OEM amp.

I think you may have it backwards on which works better with OEM amp (per Focal) , hence my question to @silverstar335 if they plan to use a new amp

SUB4 - With its 4 Ohms impedance, it is ideal with your orignal amplification

SUB2 - With its 2 Ohms impedance, it perfectly associates with the FIT 9.660 amplifier/DSP.

I'll re-look for sanity, but I am pretty sure the stock subs are 2 Ohm, which is why most replacements are also 2 Ohm and the Audiotec Fisher Match * "replacement" amps also have 2 ohm impedance on the sub channels. This at least applies to the 676 "HiFi" system that comes stock as the only option now w/the G05s but is also the basic system on most other bimmers. I don't know what the HK or B&W subs/amps have for impedance.

This is the stock subwoofer of the HiFi system. I am still undecided on what to do about the stock amp.

Thanks both, looks like the information on the Focal website is wrong.

Are these a direct swap?

Yes, a direct pnp swap.

I am thinking of replacing the subs as well...was it ever determined if in the G05 with 676 AND the Match DSP/MEC amp upgrade should you use 2 or 4 Ohm? Thanks for the patient response!

When I upgraded mine with Focal's the dealer put 2 ohms. I am pretty sure about that.

Not sure what system am getting when I take delivery of my 2022 X5 soon but expect it won't be great. Thinking if I should buy the amp but want to know if there truly is a good difference that makes it worth it. Also be good to know if it is very easy to install as represented.

I did the full amo and speaker upgrade with the alpha one speakers and amp from Bimmertech. First let me say the entire upgrade is fully plug and play! The thing that takes the longest is all the speakers and sub woofers. The total time to do the amp upgrade was about 20 mins! Super easy and pain free.
Yes the speakers are definitely a major change but when you add the amp in, it really shines.

Also Bimmertech is great customer service and they have been very helpful in providing tune files to get it just the way I want it.

Then have worked hard and quick to make minor changes based on how I have commented on any tune they sent.

I can not recommend then enough and everyone that has heard it has been wow'ed.

Definitely zero distortion and amazing bass and highs. My settings for bass and treble in the car is set to neutral now and the car sounds rocks!
