2024 BMW X5 50e - Observations & ?'s

Few quick questions and observations:

1) Auto Assist Plus is great, even out of AUTO mode you can simply tap the wheel to the beat of a tune to keep it self-driving.

2) After installing a ChargerPoint home unti I can go from zero to full charge in about 4 hours.

3) I am getting about 50 miles on each full charge, 10 more than advertised!!

4) I can't figure out how to pair the second digital "shared" key with the secondary BMW ID user stored. Every time I get in the car it registers the second digital key assigned to a phone as guest. Hate having to log in, wish it would recognize me as it does with the second physical key in my pocket.

5) Android Auto and the BMW interface seem to conflict at times and transfer which is controllin/running. I believe that the one touch for BMW and longer touch for Google Assistant on the microphone button does it. But I'd like the constant keyless "Hey Google" option.

6) Spotify is spotty, constantly glitching???

7) Floormats are a joke, thin, ordered Lloyd's Luxe:-)

8) Applied Adam's Polishes Graphene Ceramic coat to exterior and UV Leather Ceramic to interior

9) Carfoam touch less wash before every hand wash
..ACTIVE has great tools.

10) Does the car have a set break-in timer/distance? When in electric mode it only shows 50% power available? Is it like the Corvette that hits a trigger and the engine opens up?

Hi!
Welcome to the forum..

2) Yes, it's actually a little less. About 3 hours and change.
3) You will get about 40
5) BMW's software coders are way behind and borderline deal-breaker slow to keep up.
10) In electric mode only you get a little over 50%, in hybrid yes it has 50% but if needed, ICE kicks in and you get 100%

You probably won't go that far. It is a dynamic evaluation based on previous usage. I am averaging 45 miles with 1800 miles. Would be perfect with an additional 10 though...

Can I add couple of questions also...

My 2nd full charge today and it showed 99KM. I travelled 32KM but 99KM went down to 75KM (not 67KM) which means it gained 8KM from regen etc?

When you take your foot off the accelerator and there is another vehicle in the front, the car slows down instead of coasting. Does the break light goes on in this case?

is it ok to charge the battery to 100% every time? From the factory it was set to 100%.

Going to Phili next Friday so I will have the chance to see if in fact the car gets the 50+ miles electric it says it can do. Then going to evaluate the ICE mileage after I drain the battery. Honestly, anything over the 40 miles advertised pure electric is a bonus, just hope the ICE gets at least 30 mpg average on it's own?

I too have been curious about the brake light function and when it lights up for others even though I am not depressing the brake.

From what I understand, yes, you can charge up to 100% every time. The battery....and my home ChargePoint have built-in protection as well.

thanks for adding to my conversation :-)

Learnt this hard way after my tailgate touched the ceiling. You can adjust the height of boot lid opening.

Adjusting the opening height
You can set how far the upper tailgate can be
opened.
When adjusting the opening height, make sure
the clearance above the tailgate is at least
4 in/10 cm.
1. Apps menu
2. "Vehicle apps"
3. "Doors and windows"
4. "Tailgate"
5. "Opening height"
6. Monitor the tailgate and set the desired
opening height.

Wow, short ceiling! Lucky here, 3-car garage with 10 ft ceiling. Only thing that sux is the support pole between bays 1 and 2. Makes it inconvenient to park anywhere and not fear banging the door or hitting the wall aside from Bay 3.

Wife reversed after forgetting to close the recharge lid, luckily the pole caught the plastic face and not the black arm. Simply popped off and made the "repair" easy.

As has been discussed in many threads, the electric mileage range shown at startup is often a very rough estimate based on recent drives. There are too many variables to repeat them all here. New owners get all excited about this. After a year I mostly ignore the mileage range estimate and go with the charge % indicated.

The brake light does go on at a certain point with regenerative braking, even if your foot is not pressing the brake pedal.

You can actually see this if you go to Apps > Live Vehicle > Adaptive Content. This view comes up on mine by default, and the brake lights go on and off in the graphic:

Ugh, I hate the support pole! I have a two-car garage with single doors, and my passenger has to exit the vehicle before I can pull into the garage because I have to navigate the car to within inches of the wall on the right, so I can open the driver's door without hitting the pole. It's really a super-tight maneuver, including being able to reverse out of the garage from a crooked starting place. I've been in this house for 20 years, so I get it by now, but that first week after getting a new car with new dimensions is kind of harrowing!

You should easily get 40 miles +. Over the past 1900 miles I am sitting at an average 37.4 mpg combined and it is increasing daily. (1st 1200 were all gas; picked up at PCD)

It doesn't show "%" but in the Electric mode is does show "miles" in the bottom right corner. Just watch the odometer and compare because the miles electric will burn off faster based on how you are driving.

Well, I will know for sure what it actually gets on only electric next Friday...

It shows up on the dash when you start charging, also in the app and gives you live stats

Is there any merit to running on ICE/Sport for a while intentionally just to break it in? Honestly, we could have been at "zero" ICE miles now if we wanted to, just hit the gas a few times to remember the old feel :-)

I received my 50e the 3rd week of April. I ran the car mostly on Electric through the month of May, about 600 miles. The first week of June I switched to D/S, 2 pulls on the Selector lever, Now I'm at 1200 miles.

I feel comfortable now I've got the right break-in....
