I personally would be suprised if they did bring the hatch over. I'm new to bmw's so I don't know their order of things (the differences between edm models and usdm models besides engines), but if they follow suit with all the other carmakers then they'll just bring a coupe over and design a new sedan to release along side it.
The fact of the matter is that hatches aren't well recieved here in America when it comes to the general public whereas Europe has a huge "Hot Hatch" scene that just keeps growing. I know someone will pull out the fact that the Mini seems to be doing just fine, but it's one of those rare, pure hatches that is accepted by the target demographic. If you look at cars like the previous generation Honda Civic Si you'll see an attempt to bring the same market over to the US, only to be shot down by low sales and complaints from everyone that was in love with the 99-00 civic si coupe. I would think that scenarios like that have completely made foreign automakers a little weary to the idea of just bringing their hatch designs here to the US of A. Just my .02 of course |

lol
I personally would wait until the men in charge decide to release a little bit more information about the release date/price/models before I made a judgement like that. I personally would go for the coupe anyways simply because I think that it's beautiful, which is odd because I'm more of a hatch guy myself. :shrugs: |

Never gonna happen. BMW got burned big time by the 318ti. Much like they won't give Americans cloth seats, they also won't give us the hatchback.
Maybe we get some hideous X1 cross-ute for the next model cycle, but that's not the same thing. |

They will probably watch and learn from the market reaction to the Coupe and go from there.
I think the hatch would be a tough sell in the US - enthusiasts might buy it, but the volume wouldn't justify the ramp up and marketing cost. |

It's a fundraising document for a private equity/venture capital fund. I'm a professional investor, which goes a very long way toward explaining why I look at things in a very dry way and am really frank about pros and cons. I have to be in my business or money goes up in smoke. So I call 'em like I see 'em... |

Well as long as you aren't playing with your own money - and where the hell were you when ZweierCoupe was yapping about the subprime market - flyover country and $40K + for a 135i? ; -)

Anyway, frank opinions are normally appreciated. Just remember that there are a lot of 1er fanatics here and when your criticize their baby it might not be graciously accepted. |

I'm not going to candy coat my opinion just to make people feel good, at least not over a car... In my book, that's called "disingenuine." I know that will be unpopular with some people, but I can take the heat. Not sure how anyone can take offense over a car that no one has ever driven anyway... :iono: Much remains to be seen, but truth be told, I hope the thing is fabulous. I want one just like most other people around here! |

I dont understand why they didn't bring it?
If they are worrying about 135i's cutting into 335i sales why not introduce an ugly hatch?!?!?! Kind of like the M Coupe... it developed a cult following. Why a redesign that costs $$ and WILL end up stealing sales away from the 3? |
