Deposit list grew over night!
Okay, so i put an deposit on the 1 at my local dealership about a week ago, and i was fifth in line. I just got a call from my salesperson and now there's 21 that's got an deposit on it now. Just wanted to share, cause that's pretty crazy.

Yup. Those lines are growing fast. Remember: BMW has approx. 400 dealerships in the US. If we guess (a WAG, admittedly) that the US is going to get 20,000 1ers the first year, that's 50 cars per dealership. Probably 20 of those will be 135is, so you do the math.

Out of the current 21 deposits I would venture to say that only 1/2 purchase the car when it arrives. Remember... pricing has yet to be released and if the 128 & 135 are too closely priced to the 328 & 335 (base MSRP) then 1-Series Coupe sales will suffer. Surely it is a difficult time for BMW NA determining how to price the 1er.

You're probably right that half will cancel their deposits, but it's only September and his dealer has 21 despoits taken? Damn!
And you're right: the 1er is going to be a tough car to price. I still think $34,995 for a 1er could happen. BMW can always raise the price later, but a realistic base price will help with market penetration. |

Same hyped BS that people want you to believe you won't get something if you're not on some kind of list. I've never reserved anything, and still end up getting it.

I don't believe any of the dealers will get their allocation until Jan. That is essentially what we are on a list for...an allocation slot.
I knew this car would be hot, so I called my sales guy as soon as I saw the official pictures.

I have spoken to (5) different dealers here in the Bay Area and the earliest to be taking deposits/orders is SF and that's not until December. They will have a 135i available at that time for those on the list to test drive. This area is a huge market for BMW and I don't get others already putting money down? As it is they won't take my money yet if I asked them to, is it a California "thing" (legal I mean, not weird)?

pleasanton dealership. kendricks.
jake's my salesperson. man, he let me rip through the turns with the 335i, if you wanna get an idea of how the n54 engine performs, definitely go there and ask for jake. He took me to a back road. it was a straight away, and i took the e92 (auto tho ><) to 130, broke hella hard (he instructed me to do so) and whipped the tail at a dead end. i'd have to attribute it to him for getting me hooked on the powers of a n54 motor. |
