brake fluid

So I have a message coming up for required service of Brake Fluid. My car is at 29500 miles so do I really need a brake fluid flush full service or can I just top it off and/or reset it?

In my opinion and knowledge of modern cars in general, brake fluids should be good for a good 100k miles or in some cases even up to 150k miles. Am I wrong and do I really need this? Car is out of warranty and I am quite handy so if there is a detailed brake fluid flush DIY then I don’t mind doing it if absolutely needed.

Flush. And no, brake fluid's life is NOT about mileage but time. 3 years is already kind of long IMO. Previous BMW ask for brake fluid flush every 2 years. This job has never been covered under warranty.

Degrade brake fluid can cause corrosion inside the hydraulic system, and if further degrade, fluid can become compressible, and brake performance degrades. Skipping brake fluid for too long has a big penalty. The cost of flush should very low, the job is simple. With car up on lift, 4 wheels off and a hand pump, it can be done in 30 minutes. Even DIY at home, jack up up one corner and one wheel off at a time, it is a 1 hour job at most. I would say if you are handy, take one weekend afternoon and do it.

The only caution I would say is do let brake fluid touch paint, wipe off immediate if contact. Brake fluid eats paint

something like this?

Not the same X5, but same procedure, wheel off, open breath hole, using fish tank tube setup old fluid collection. Pump the new fluid in from resevior. Starting from rear passenger side (furthest to nearest), one corner at a time.

Additional comment based on my older BMW, I use ATE super gold/blue fluid. Every other flush, I switch color, so I can visually see all the fold fluid is out from far way. when my G05 time comes for DIY, I will also look for Gold/blue fluid for this car and do the same.

Shoot - I forgot to mention that I have the m sport brakes and this video is for non m sport brakes. I believe there is a small step that is different or additional for the M Sport brakes. Any idea or diy for that?

I don't think what brake package you have makes a different in the concept. Find the breath hole in the caliper, loose it. Apply pressure from reservoir side by pumping in new fluid, until you see fluid coming out form breath hole is new and free of bubble. With most wheel in G05, you can probably see where the breath hole screw is.
