After almost one full week of ownership, I’m absolutely loving my new 2024 BMW XM Label in Jerez Black Metallic. Despite what the haters and reviewers may say, this thing is a beast and is a lot of fun to drive! It’s like a hybrid (no pun intended) of my previous 2019 M550 and 2023 iX M60. And no new BMW would be complete without super dark window tint. #MissionAccomplished

The BWM XM and XM Label’s privacy glass measures in at a very dark 3% VLT from the factory before any windows tint has been applied. I knew it was darker than the typical BMW privacy glass, but I couldn’t believe it when I saw the light meter. Just for comparison, the privacy glass on the BMW iX M60 is 14% VLT from the factory with no film applied.

After applying the XPEL Prime XR Plus 5 to the front windows, the glass now measures in at a very dark 3% VLT which was necessary to match the privacy glass in the back. Also for comparison, I had XPEL Prime XR Plus 15 (12% VLT) on my BMW iX M60 and it measured in at 9% VLT after being applied to the glass - just not quite dark enough to match on privacy glass on the XM.

After applying the XPEL Prime XR Plus 70 film to the windshield, sides, and back, the privacy glass now measures in at a slightly darker 2% VLT for an near perfect match to the front windows. Probably should have gone a little darker on the tailgate as it’s not quite as dark as the other privacy glass.

Current OCD situation: SATISFIED! For those that haven’t used this brand or product before, it is superb. Even in Texas during the summer’s 100°+ temperatures, you will feel no heat from the outside. It’s worth every single penny!

Looks amazing! I will pick mine up next week and first stop will be tint as well. Thanks for the info. I hope the fronts are not too dark for night driving in rural areas!

Thanks man! It’s going to be dark for sure! Even XPEL 15 (12% VLT) was really dark on my previous vehicle and this is even darker. Do take note that the rear tailgate is not near as dark as the rear seat privacy glass. It’s really hard to tell unless you sit in the backseat and look at the something identical from the side and back. The sides are noticeably darker before you even put any window tint on it. They’re going to add an extra layer of film to my tailgate later on to make it match. It still looks fantastic.

If you look at the last three or four photos, you’ll be able to tell what I’m talking about. I put 70% everywhere but the front two windows and you can easily tell the difference between it and the side view. It will still pitch black at night on all four sides.

I don’t know where you live, but the legal limit in Texas is 25% for the front windows, so I’d would tell you that it’s 100% not legal! The rest of the windows don’t matter With the exception of the windshield, but you won’t even notice it being any darker with 70% film. PlusI won’t have to worry about state inspection for another two years and the BMW dealerships don’t really seem to care. I can’t speak for other parts of the country, but this is not something that’s really enforced in Texas unless they’re looking for a reason to pull you over. Considering I don’t drink or go out at night, it’s pretty risk-free for me. In the event that I do get pulled over, it will just be a ticket.

You and I did the same, I matched the back when I got mine as well and was surprised they weee darker from the factory than even my 23 X7 M60… She was so bothered by it that she matched the XM all around since she liked the look more…

As others have said legal, not even close however in all my travels the only place I see it enforced as a primary vs secondary finding when pulling a car is Virginia Beach. There may be others but of all the places I have been they stick out :-)

I was very surprised that the window in the tailgate is not nearly as dark as the rest of the privacy glass in the backseat. They’re going to install another layer of film over the other one to make it match.

I think the hang up for me was the cost of this vehicle, especially in the 'Label' edition, but I think I might just be jealous. It's not easy to find unique vehicles on the road anymore and this one is for sure unique. Add to it the BMW M treatment and I think it's a winner. This vehicle looks great and it sounds like it drives awesome too. Congrats on taking the plunge. Glad to hear you're loving it.

I’ll admit…looks MUCH better in that color than it does in lighter tones.
I would change the wheels, though…BUT if you’re happy with the end result, that is ALL that matters!
Enjoy your ride, drive it hard!!!

With the tint on my truck I find myself lowering the dash and navi brightness to reduce glare inside the cockpit. Makes seeing out easier.

Awesome gotta love the all blacked out look. Jerez seems similar to carbon black or is that just the lighting in the garage?

It’s very similar to carbon black metallic which I had on my M550. Slightly darker though. I never would’ve ordered one of this color, but I’m certainly glad this is what I ended up with. It looks absolutely stunning under bright lights

Here’s a comparison from the showroom floor from earlier in the day and later that night when I went to see it:

That’s going to be change later this week. I didn’t realize that the privacy glass on the tailgate was different than the backseat windows until after they completed the work. It’s an easy fix.

Yes, they are required in Texas; however that is a sin for any fine German automobile! It’s not really enforced in most big cities unless they’re looking for a reason to pull you over. If I get pulled over, it will be because of my super dark window tint.

Gorgeous and looks super mean! Great job on matching the tint all around, how is visibility from the inside?

I still can’t get over to how Jerez black looks so close to carbon black.

Agreed. Glad you kept moving towards the XM. All the negative press aside- I think it’s a beautiful unique suv. And again- out in the wild… it’s menacing to see in person. Bold!
