Disabling interior alarm without FOB

Now that it is winter time my dogs ride with me a good bit. In the past I would use the key FOB to hit the lock button twice to disable the interior alarm system so the dogs don't set off the alarm while they are locked in the vehicle. Now that I mainly use my phone as a key is there a way to disable the interior alarm or can it only be done with the FOB? Unfortunately the little alarm button on the dash is no longer there in the LCI models.

And yes, I looked in the manual but didn't see anything.

Interesting use case and given I've never needed to do so it piqued my curiosity. As per the manual, as you called out it requires the fob as not a function of DK+ (or legacy DK but there used to be the hard buttons for that just like on my 2020 M850i).

The DK+ manual does not explain the UWB "buttons" on the key. I've used the lock, unlock and trunk ones but never the alarm. My guess without testing is it sets off the alarm aka panic mode but it may indeed just toggle it on/off. If it does the latter that would be your best outcome.

The other potential "workaround" to meet your scenario needs is locking with the MyBMW app. Frankly, I was surprised that when in doing so the alarm was not activated. I've done so several times over the years when my wife forgot to lock her X5 while in a rush to get into her classroom for her day of teaching. That included iD6 on her old X5 and now once with her LCI 40i.

Why locking with the MyBMW app does not set the alarm is a mystery as in general one expects a "lock" of the vehicle to engage it. For your use case though with dogs in the car that's a deterrent within itself so you should be safe in doing so. Catch-22 is turning off Comfort Access auto lock when walking away with your DK+ on the smartphone. Guessing it would override the MyBMW app lock even if done before you walk away and fully engage the alarm system.

If locking the vehicle “remotely” using the app doesn’t arm the alarm system…then it is somehow programmed to only do what in the past was called “SINGLE-LOCK”. This is just like locking the vehicle from the inside like when you press the central lock button or if you have it set in iDrive to lock when driving off…or if you manually press down all of the door lock pins.

All the doors are locked in this scenario but the alarm system is NOT activated (which is indicated by the red status LED below the rear view mirror does not illuminate and start to flash)…and the fuel filler flap doesn’t lock, either.

Question? Can the IMS (interior motion sensor) be turned off using the comfort access handles? I wonder if two taps of the ridges will deactivate the IMS & Tilt sensors?

But as mentioned above…if you have iDrive set to lock/unlock as you walk away & walk up to the vehicle…then the alarm system is going to be set which will initiate the IMS.

You mean when I use ‘MyBMW’ to unlock and then lock my car, the alarm system remains off? A - that’s bull***t. B - thank you for letting me know!

Eye opener of my piqued interest in the OP's scenario. Totally flabbergasted that using the MyBMW app to lock does not engage the alarm system.

After reading these posts, "I" got alarmed So I decided to do an experiment. Shamefully admitting that I used a surveillance cam and microphone from the warmth and comfort of my home to see/hear the results.. .. hey, it's cold here in NY. I watched my X5 via live video/sound as I locked it using the MyBMW app. It locked the car, the red LED at the bottom of the rearview mirror is now blinking just as it does when I lock the car with my FOB or the door handle with the FOB in my pocket. The only other thing to do would be to go out to the car and try to set off the alarm but did I mention it's cold outside?

I wrote “if” locking with the app…we’ll have to see if Marty or someone else’s experiment sets the alarm off. But if the status light (clown nose) is illuminated & flashing slowly…that means the alarm has been armed.

My current BMWs were 3G…so I’ve lost the ability to communicate with them using the app…so I can’t be of any help in testing if the alarm system is set or not.
