Average oil temperature for winter time?

during this winter i’ve been maxing my oil temp around 100°C but i just went on a 14 hour road trip and the temperature didn’t move from that 100°C point. i’m reading around and seeing people saying 100 is okay and some saying 120 is average which is what my other 335 gets during the summer.

My winter car is stock and my summer car is stage 1 mhd.

ny summer car only really gets to 120 when i give it the beans for a bit.

100 degrees C is fine. 120degrees is hot for an e9x in my opinion (my 330D rarely got over 105C even when hauling a trailer over the mountains last year).

maybe a 335i (tuned) gets a bit hotter, but what you describe seems perfectly fine

On my N54, oil temperature is always at 105-120 degree Celsius. I’ve read that it’s completely normal for this engine. I would say anything above 120 degree Celsius is abnormal when you push the car hard.

I dont know if it's the thermostat, but those engines are running considerably colder in winter.

Few days ago, I did a 30 min ride (+/- 25km) mix of highway and city, during a freezing rain, outside was around 1°C, and the T° gauge didn't move a bit on my N55, lower limit is 70°C.

I wish I can compare with my turbo audi, but the audi T° gauge is for coolant. All I know is the oil in the audi become dark black very soon, in 600km or so, mainly because of high temps. Hard to guess when in the BMW its turning dark, thanks to the absent dip stick.

During the winter time here, unless I'm doing some spirited driving my oil temps will stay in the 200-220 F

100c is pretty normal I think in winter. I also have colder temps in winter altho lately we haven't had extreme cold yet. Summer I'm more often around 120c even with MHD waterpump cooling. It also takes me a lot of time for my oil to heat up when it's very cold.

Mine sits around 120 in heavy stop start traffic winter or summer. I once saw 121C on a very hot summer day. When cruising it sits at around 100-105 in winter and about 110 in summer. Looks like my engine is running a little hotter than others.
