Phone connects, but no phone calls working on Xdrive45e

Hi

Over the past 1.5 years I've had the occasional hiccup with the phone connecting to my car (22 xDrive45e, iDrive 7?). But nothing too difficult to resolve. However I'm not able to talk on the phone when my Google Pixel 8 is connected to the car (I can if I redirect call to handset). All other aspects like Navigation (Maps or Waze) and audio (Pandora) seem to be fine.

The Pixel 8 is relatively new, but was working fine when connected to the car up until about 2-3 weeks ago. There were no recent updates to the software in the car right before the problem started happening. I've tried disconnecting/re-pairing the phone to the car but the problem remains.

Any ideas on what may be wrong and how to fix it?

Thanks, Derek

I'm going to bump this thread because I'm having the same issue with my Pixel Pro 8, and my 2024 X5 M60. Android Auto works great, (Spotify, Waze, messages etc). No issues at all, except in the past 3 months or so, occasionally (and certainly not every time I get into the car) I can't hear any phone calls in or out. Yesterday it worked fine, this morning again, I got no sound for voice. The phone connects, but I have to change to phone speaker as the bluetooth is silent (both for microphone and speaker). This is the same with the cars direct bluetooth connection (so not just android auto). My workaround has been to call my direct line at my own office first, to see if the phone is going to work before I try calling anyone else. Given that (as said, occasionally) it doesn't work with the main bluetooth also, I'm thinking it's a phone or car issue, and not an android auto issue. If anyone has any good suggestions to resolve this, I'm happy to try them all out. Thanks.

I have the same issue, voice seems to work sometimes after a reboot but not reliably. I have a Pixel 9 Fold and my wife has a similar issue with her Pixel 9 Pro with her iX.

What I have noticed is that my phone shows a strange "Bluetooth Device" paired that comes back after I remove it and connect to my car. The OUI for the address associated with that device doesn't show up on the Bluetooth site so I suspect that this might be a LAA for the phone key. So I am testing with disabling UWB, proximity for the Phone Key, and a few other settings.

Do you see a similar Bluetooth device?

This is a very annoying known bug for Pixel phones that's happening to with a lot of cars not just BMW

Google is still not doing anything about it

After one month I think this issue is related to the phone key. The phone key also creates a "Bluetooth Device" which is active when the phone key is also active. When it happened I created a debug log and I was able to see that the phone thought that the active audio output was this fictitious "Bluetooth Device" and not the correct audio path even though this device was not advertising any audio capabilities.

I deleted the phone key and have not had the issue since then. I see Mamous's comments about similar issues and while they seem similar at least in my case it was the Phone Key causing the issue.
