BMW Maintenance/Service Option, is it worth it?

I need some advice on whether it is worth buying the maintenance or service package options when i pick up my BMW

This is my first BMW so i really need some advice from guys that have had BMW's in the past and have or have not bought these packages and if it is worth the money. As you know it is quite alot of money ranging from £500 to £1500 depending on the package....any advice would be most welcome

Thanks in advance

I am not sure what the intervals are on the 135, but my 123 is only serviced every 19,000miles, hence the 3 year 36,000 contract is £450 FOR ONE SERVICE (which will only be a micro filter and some oil for gods sake,)!!!! it really doesnt stack up the max cost for that service (unless i have chewed up a set of tires (fairly likely but they arent included anyway!) is about £250! A few of the guys at the dealership are good mates of mine and said dont bother with it, i am only planning on keeping the car for 3 years anyway, and only do about 12,000 a year, so it really doesnt stack up for me.

i would say dont bother, unless you will be keeping the car for the full 5 year contract, and doing very high milage, as the top one covers the breaks, clutch and everything else. if you are like me save the money.

I totally agree with Vidge - didn't get it myself and seems overly expensive for the return.

Did you ge the BMW tracker installed?? Seemed outrageously expensive compared to the non BMW options on the market.

Our 335d needed it's first service at 14500, and cost £250... and then another £900 for 4 tyres

I personally wouldn't bother with it.

BMW servicing is not that expensive for non-M cars and a lot cheaper than Audi!

i've gone for the 5 year service package. Looked at the three year but it just didn't ad dup as i'm only doing around 12k a year. I figured that i will get 3 serives out of the deal including the more expensive 2nd serice (maybe about £300ish ?), also i won't have to worry about the cost of services going up. Total saving 250 + 300 + 250 - 645 = 165 at todays prices. Not a huge saving but at least i don't have to think of the cost of servicing for the next 5 years! I'f i do sell the vehicle before the 5 years is up it will be a good selling point having at least 1 service paid for and may help swing a deal between my car and another.

sorry taylor i dont get your figures at all the 5 year package is £745 if you pre buy. You are saying that services will come to about 800 for 3 services if you just do it when needed that means the saving is £55 - sorry if i am missing something but i dont understand

the only thing i can think of is Taylor you are not getting a 135i but one of the others then the service is £635. That is where your saving might be bigger. Am i right?

Yeah that's right. I'm getting the 123d m sport. Not sure how much the bigger service is, thinking about it though it must be more than 300.

i would have siad its worth finding out what the service intervals are, as i say the 123d is every 19,000miles so for that car it doesnt stack up.

Should get 3 services out of it, after 5 years of 12k miles/year i will have done 60k miles which is greater than 3 service intervals (57k). Also the service intervals alter to your driving techniques, and i do plan to "drive" this car

sorry, just read your 1st post again, you were looking at the 3 year package. I looked at that also and your right, it doesn't stack up when we're only doing 12k a year, you'll definately lose out.

Yep, the 335d destroys rear tyres, and the runflats tend to slide around a bit and scrub quite quickly.

Probably didn't help that the car was an ex-demo.

Hoping to see about 15k from the rears and 25k from the fronts with my wife's style of driving - she accelerates hard but is gentle on the corners.
