Can Dealer Install Premium Audio After Order?
Well, I had read one review of someone who didn't think the premium audio was worth it and so I made sure to not order it. But, after hearing how plain the stock one was over the weekend, coupled with many people saying that the Logic 7 upgrade sounds really good, I've been having serious second thoughts and my car is already on a boat, but I'm curious if that's an option package the dealer could actually install? Anybody know?
I may just opt to upgrade the speakers and maybe do some other cheap modifications to improve the quality for maybe $500-$600, so I would welcome some cheap, but good advice on how to do that. I'm not looking for a stellar system, just something that sounds decent, not too much base, don't want to install additional things (will be a leased car probably), and just want a nice upgrade for crisp, clean sound for those few and rare moments where I'm not listening to the engine. =) |

I don't know either. I would love to compare stock vs premium.
If the stock sounded as good as my stock Civic Si stereo I would be plenty happy. I also need to know, don't want to add $875 to the already high monthly payment. |

The upgraded sound system sounds much much cleaner than the Civic Si.
I have had both cars

I think the answer is no, adding these items on the production line is relatively simple. The wiring for all options is always installed, just a matter of what speakers are fitted, amp, head unit etc. Adding these items afterwards would be possible but more expensive and labour intensive.
I'm going to add some aftermarket items and try my luck. If you're leasing then try something like a Blaupunkt Velocity V2Go. I know, "what the hell is that?" you say. Google it. No permanent install required just power and an audio signal.

if you're going to go that route, i would go get it upgraded at an audio shop with better equipment for less $ (or heck,do it yourself). You'd be amazed how much of a difference you can hear from simply upgrading the speakers. If you're not going for major bass you don't need to upgrade with subwoofers or a bigger amp, I think the stock unit is sufficiently powerful. Just my 2 cents...I used to be an audiophile, now I just don't really care anymore lol

I went with the base audio. Music is nothing but background noise for me anyway while I'm driving.

For details of the 5door layout
http://www.babybmw.net/forum/viewtop...6de1c01fc45cec Should be a good guide for coupe. Also guide for upgrading speakers. http://babybmw.net/forum/viewtopic.p...ef6101924ba444 It all appears to be pretty much plug-and-play in these cases. I have the tweeters coming from Germany to instal in mine soon. |

My dealer says no, but they have been wrong before. I think what it comes down to is that they will charge you labor vs. it coming on the car. For instance, sirius is 595 from the factory, but to add it is 595 + 300 in labor costs. And, you have the added plus of someone messing up your electrics while doing it. I remember on the mini that the HK option could not be added, it added amps, modules, wiring, etc. Some brave souls did it, but spent 2X the costs of a nice aftermarket system.
I chose to sell off my collection of audio I had purchased new to put into my mini (alpine 9887 deck with sirius / ipod), I won't know for 5 or so more weeks whether I made a good decision!
