2024 X5M Competition - Brake Issue

Aside from my brakes constantly sounding like a tractor trailer with bad brakes, I am hearing a high pitched chirping noise coming from the brakes when simply driving. Does anyone else have this problem? If so, then what have you done to correct it?

It's the pads. Apparently, changing to iSweep pads either the IS1500 or IS2000 fixes all the issues.

my pads squeak pretty bad at low speeds. sounds like i need new pads but they have plenty of life at 14k..... love that on a $130k car.

my Huracan performante with carbon ceramics would do it occasionally but that was normal for carbon ceramics.

i guess it has to do with the pads.

iSweep and EBC Red makes pads for our cars and are completely silent with less dust.

do yourself a favor and just change out the pads. the noise does NOT get better and only gets worse. I dealt with my car sounding like a old school bus for 2 years before i actually swapped pads. Now they are completely silent

I agree with Alan and can't recommend ISWEEP pads enough, you won't regret it

Did you guys have BMW switch the pads, do it yourself, or have a third party shop do it?

My M5 did this too. It was ridiculous and embarrassing. There was a thread around the F90 forums about someone who said its because of of the pads had seized up or something like that, but I cannot remember the thread.

Update -

The brakes continue to scream like crazy when stopping, but the foreman where I took the car said the following with regard to the whistling noise -

“I narrowed down the noise. Noise is possibly mechanical and coming from bell housing area. Created Tsara case and provided information to BMW and video to see what are the next steps we are going to be taking. I would like to remove the transmission and inspect toque converter and flywheel but need there authorization. I'll be updating you once I hear back from them.”

They had the car for a total of 30 days (don’t get me started about how dirty I got it back - black sapphire metallic does not do well parked uncovered for 30 days(see picture)) to identify where the noise was coming from and for BMW to think about what they wanted to do. On the 29th day, the TSE arrived at the dealership and compared it to an X6M and another X5M and got the cars to make the same noise between 1800-2200 rpms. So….BMW, of course, say the car is operating normal and will not authorize any work unless and until something breaks or goes wrong relating to the noise. I did mention that sometimes when I come to a traffic stop the car bangs into the last gear….they don’t care because they couldn’t reproduce it and will also say that’s normal too. So much for taking roadtrips….I no longer trust it, and it’s only 10 months old.

+1 for iSweep pads.
It's only a few hundred $$ and will completely change your experience with your X5MC!
Those are great trucks, but unfortunately, BMW failed in the pad material selection.

My brakes on my M5 were that way as well, pretty much the only thing I disliked about that car.

As for how dirty they returned that car to you, that dealer should be embarrassed. They wash my car even if I just go in for a state inspection. Heck, the Volvo dealer just did the same with my son's 2018 V60.

I think the ‘authorization’ is BMW agreeing to cover the costs. Lemon law that thing.

My 2025 X5MC has 452 miles and sounds terrible I can drive 10 miles and my wheels are covered in brake dust. My 2022 M4 Comp has carbon ceramic and I can go weeks with very little build up . It blows my mind that for $142k I need to put new pads to avoid BMW mistake and carbon ceramic want an option on a much heavier vehicle

I just bit the bullet and ordered isweep1500 front/rear.

I don't like the cost, but felt that compared to the therapy I would need to manage my OCD from being triggered by brake dust, this is slightly less expensive.

Me too just this week. I couldn’t stand the brakes screaming like horny cats in spring time. Got the is2000 front and rear took care of the problem. Funny thing is my brakes are now quite but my anxiety still comes whenever I come to a stop.

I just swapped over to the 1500s - anyone have any road test feedback?

The brakes are immediately quieter, and no bedding requirement coming from the mfg. Thats the first time I have seen that for performance brakes. They bite equal to or slightly better than the OEM. If the dust reduction is as good as people claim, this would be a no brainer upgrade in my book.

Anyone have miles on theirs and care to comment? Or better, provide comparables on miles driven and dust creation!

I have about 10K miles on 2000s. Put them in right after I got the car and discovered super noisy brakes.
Local dealership service department started the usual "It's by design," so I took a plunge.

Love them!

Quiet from day one, slightly less dust than OEM, but the byte is much better, IMHO.

These 1500s have great bite too - very surprised. Have about 50miles on them and ZERO dust. Even in that short distance OEM would have been full of dust. These things are crazy.

Shocking to me on the no bedding requirement - instantly quiet and zero hassle. Worth every penny.

I have no data but imagine OEMs perform better, but in reality, it probably does not matter for road driving. Mine have been fine so far, but I can see your position!!
