wheel cleaning/protecting

hey guys just ordered a few bits and pieces in prep for the new 1er coming but i dont really know of any products to use on the wheels.. any suggestions on some good protectants???

I ordered the P21S wheel cleaner and wheel wax from bav auto. Awaiting the shipmentl and application. Will let you know the results.

Anyone else with experience using P21S or wheel wax?

Yep.. I have used both on my 325. I would follow up and wax the wheels with a good quality carnuba wax. The brake dust will then wipe off easy after a wash.

I use P21S Gel wheel cleaner and have used it for years on the Porsches. We had a concours clinic where one of the concours experts demo'd a bunch of products. You can leave the gel on for 2 hours and let it work. Even works on track wheels. Probably don't need to use something so gentle on painted wheels. I have no idea what will work well as a good persistent wax for wheels.

P21S gel wheel cleaner is very nice. I use both it and Poor Boy's wheel wax on my STi's BBS wheels. Makes getting that Brembo dust, which there is a ton of, off easy.

the wheel wax is good stuff and the P21S wheel cleaner is as well, but I feel that wheel cleaners are a waste of money and you can achieve similar (better) results with a bucket, some dawn dish soap, water, a wheel brush and a wash mitt.

The only problem with using Dawn is that it strips whatever wax happens to be on the wheel. I personally would not use Dawn or any other dish detergent unless it is followed up with a good coat or two of wax.

Some people prefer to use palmolive as it has a neutral PH while dawn is slightly caustic. I like dawn because it breaks up grease and dirt like nothing else and I wash my car and clean my wheels very frequently anyway.

Yes they do break up the grease and dust well. Just make sure and wax them afterward or you might have problems with the clear coat later on or brake dust buildup.

I currently use Wheel Wax for my Stock S2000 rims, works great!

I just use soap and water. I've never had to use any special cleaner. Another thing that I learned is instead of using wax, use a synthetic sealant since they're more resistant to heat than wax is. It'll last longer on the wheel. Stuff like Zaino or Klasse Sealant Glaze work well. You may already be using this on your car already so just use it on the wheels as well.

Best way to prevent the crazy amounts of dust would be to just switch to pads that produce less or at least don't produce a black soot, but more of a gray soot.

I am planning on using Poorboys Wheel Sealant and P21S Wheel Cleaner. My question: will the P21S wheel cleaner strip off the Wheel Sealant?
