X5M vs Cayenne Turbo vs other
Anyone cross shop these? Probably prefer the look of the cayenne but the depreciation is a lot more than the x5m. I’ve never driven an x5m…and there’s not one for sale within 150 miles of me. Could you give me an idea of how these compare? Looking for straight line 0-60 speed as well as handling. I will be buying new or cpo’24. Just want something with a v8 that’s fun and a little wild. Any other ideas are welcome as well!

If you are looking for something with 0-60 straight line speed that handles well, a 2 1/2 ton SUV does not seem like a good choice.

Not sure if you have driven a turbo GT…but pretty dang close to a 911. I’ve heard some say X5M drives really well as well…just wanted to get your thoughts. Thanks |

Yeh, once I get it narrowed down, I’ll go take a day and drive to somewhere I can drive one before I buy one. I have found these high end SUV’s…dealers don’t love just letting you take it out for a drive unless you are real serious. There are just so few vehicles these days…

If money is no issue to you I’d 100% say go for the cayenne coupe turbo GT. Fastest production SUV on the market currently and they handle more like a car as you said prior. However, I’ve never driven just the regular turbo trim level so I can’t compare. X5M has a lot of personality, very fun car to drive and definitely wild. It’s much bigger than the cayenne but it has some real power. Very very fun cars to drive even as a daily.

The Cayenne just didn’t do it for me. I love Porsches (own 2) but the styling let me down. Also while the steering is amazing I find the air suspension isolating. Meanwhile the X5M suspension feels quite similar in terms of stiffness and response to my 911 equipped with sport suspension.
Also the X5 had more cargo space and way more equipment for less money. The money truly didn’t sway me…the drive did. That’s compared to Cayenne S and Turbo FWIW. I felt so nauseated looking at the Cayenne coupe I couldn’t even take it for a test drive. The Turbo GT is faster but way more expensive than any X5. You could almost buy an X5M and an M3 comp for that price. X |

I've always found that the Cayenne turbo is more of a "very fast very comfortable, less worried about handling" trim. Turbo gt is crazy, but I think the GTS is the trim that's fast and handles well.
I'd get an x5m over a Cayenne personally. That said, I'd make sure I had a great dealer very close, and if I didn't, I wouldn't buy either. |

Don't expect great handling from a 5500 pound suv. Straight line they're fast but turning you can definitely feel the weight. Not that fun. That said, don't buy a Porsche and get an SUV. The price differential is you paying for the badge basically. I have a 992 but their SUVs are not that compelling.

As you add more mass to help hide the existing mass, at some point it becomes a self-defeating event, which is why the first thing most people do in order to make a car faster is to remove as much mass as they can. My E70 4.8i with DHP cornered flatter than my Porsche 911 but nobody would say that it handled better, just that it handles its *weight* better.
