LCI - Disable Start/Stop with BimmerComm

Looks like the BimmerCode folks have come up with a workaround for disabling ASS on the LCI's using an OBD device and it will be available soon. Perhaps someone with an LCI can join the waitlist and give it a shot and let us now how it goes.

Edit: I did get confirmation that this will disable ASS on iD7 vehicles that are running 03/2023 where it can't be coded off.

Is this device supposed to plugged in to OBD all the time - while driving (instead of bimmercode adaptor just need to be there during coding?)

I saw some chinese tiktok on implementing some previously code-able feature with some hardware module plugged tapped into the car. Maybe it is something similar

Yes, that is how it seems to work.

Interesting, looks like you plug it in and leave it in to get the features it offers and then unplug it to put the car back to OEM, simple as that. Is that the way you're taking it at this point?

So naturally I'm wondering if it can disable ASS in pre LCI models where the later (more recent) sw update blocked it. Hmmmmm. Time will tell.

These (https://www.aliexpress.us/item/3256806289388424.html ) have been selling in China and seems to work for pre LCI. They do need to be installed in the center console, so not as easy as OBD-based.

Subscribed. Not mainly for ASS but for other features they might introduce.

my guess would be this would put the car in "diagnostic mode", similar to quickly tap start/stop button three time

I wouldn't think so as you couldn't be driving around in Diagnostic mode all of the time.

You don't want to get some folks started on it.

This is me. I was not looking forward to ASS until about 2 days after I took delivery of that X5 and now think nothing of it. The dread of ASS is much worse than the reality.

I agree, it is very amusing to me. You should have seen the reaction in the last thread when I posted something about ASS and the reasons why people didn't want it.

Heck yeah! Me. I actually traded in my X7 M60i because it pissed me off so much at the time. I decided to give the X5 50e a try since it seemed like an exciting powertrain, which it was. I ended up trading it in at my first oil change because my wife and I missed the X7's more comfortable ride and quieter interior. Plus, the dealer basically gave me my money back. At the time the 50e was in high demand due to production issues.

So I've trained myself to press the traction button to keep the engine running at stoplights, etc. We have been in florida for 2 weeks now and it's 94 degrees with a 107 degree heat index. If I couldn't disable start/stop at all I would drive it off a cliff. Shutting off at lights the a/c drops and starts blowing hot air. Screw that. And, ever try pulling into a parking space and it shuts off before your all the way in? Then it has to restart to move 6 inches. Infuriating in a "luxury" vehicle.

Gotta say, I am not a fan of leaving Chinese hardware plugged into my OBD2 port at all times. I have a PHEV so it doesn't affect me, at least.
