Custom X5M Titanium Cat-back Exhaust (from China)

So, I have been speaking with a gentleman in China for the last few months about building a custom titanium exhaust system, and finally pulled the trigger as the price is just too good to be true.

I ordered a cat-back system with an x-pipe, carbon tips and setup to use the OEM valves.

They use 3" TC4 titanium and should weigh in at 50lbs. (48lbs as delivered)

There are lots of reviews with pictures on Alibaba for this manufacturer, with a handful from supercar owners. They seem to do great work.

https://www.alibaba.com/product-deta...707006261.html

$2138 shipped to the US via air. 30% deposit, the rest due upon completion / QC. Production starts Monday, will post pics as they roll in...

I contacted Allen at +86 183 4416 7400 via What's App to order.

That’s awesome congrats, good for you having the cojones and pulling the trigger. I don’t know how exhausts are made internally but I do know the biggest difference is in the final sound each exhaust produces. Hifi & G Power seem to be on more of the muscle car end, Akrapovic is on the high end exotic spectrum. I was next to a McLaren one day and I swear our cars sounded very similar I couldn’t believe it, right then and there I realized what everyone meant (mostly Alan lol) when they said Akra has an “exotic sound”. Up until that very moment I didn’t know what they were talking about lol Also the “drone” they produce on the inside of the vehicle can be very different. TBH I still don’t get the drone meaning but again I have the full Akra system and I’m pretty positive I have zero drone, due to Akra’s long term experience in making exhausts and how well it’s made.

Titanium is awesome, helps with the sound and weighs less but honestly my butt dyno can’t really feel the difference in speed that is saved by it weighing less.

That exhaust looks very well made, I can’t wait to hear your sound results!

That's about right for titanium. Please make sure you specify the following;

thick wall titanium if it's an option
Welds must be purged on both sides
Make sure pipe diameter is consistent, also make sure it's the right size
Specify extra packing in the muffler so closed operation is actually quiet

ING is pretty decent. I run Chinese exhausts on a few cars because the vendors that resell them here have crack-pipe pricing. In for videos when you get it.

Seems like it's too good to be true. Not a call-out, just feels like there must be a catch.

There is. You may have to adjust it, because the tips are not aligned. If he does not specify correctly purged welds, the inside may not be purged. If he doesn't specify diameter, they may change it.

Also be sure to get your name and a timestamp in front of your exhaust before you send the rest of the funds. Ensure you are very thorough in your order and be prepared for small upcharges to get exactly what you're looking for.

You also for sure want to specify US-Spec -the exhaust I got for the m2 has all the OPF bungs that I had to block off.

Great notes for anyone else interested, still very economical compared to Akra lol even with up charges I’m sure you’d save around 60% for maybe only 30% less quality. I’m all about craftsmanship & quality so to me it’s worth shelling out the extra coin but for others trying to enjoy their cars temporarily until the new version comes out this option is worth it and if enough people option to go this route these companies will have the capital to make superior products in the future…..

If anybody else has experience please share! Super curious to hear what others say as I’m alway weary of reviews on the Aliexpress/alibaba sites lol always feels like they sneak a couple of their cousins and friends reviews I there 😂

I have confirmed they are using a 1.5mm thick TC4 Titanium stock at 3in diameter throughout and they said they use a TIG (Argon) welding process.

Make sure it's purged on both sides so the beads don't look like shit and fall apart on the inside. Grade 2 and 5 titanium can be a pain. I also can't state enough to make sure you do us spec not euro spec so you don't get all the OPF bungs.

my X5M is on downpipes primary and secondary them all other side of exhaust gpower sound was very good as someone desribed here as muscle car, but in lower rpm it gives too much drone inside.

Then I removed gpower exhaust and installed stock exhaust now there is not much drone but I dont like the noise in lower rpm its very bad for a V8.

I am considering to install again GPower but only catback end side and keeping stock exhaust resonator there so perhaps I will have again good sound but not much drone.

What do you think guys should it work this way?

Now I want to install

Exhaust should be shipping tomorrow. Pictures not the best quality, but looks to be as advertised:

Edit:
Piping is all 3" as advertised.

Exhaust arrived today, will be installing tomorrow.

It is so light weight, like unbelievably light.

I can't wait to weigh the stock system and see the difference.

Exhaust turned out better than I could have imagined and it sounds incredible!

Damn near perfect fit and finish.

No drone, no rasp, super clean sound under full load.

Akrapovic style carbon exhaust tips are high quailty.

We did have to flare the pipe a bit to get it over the stock downpipes, but that was the only modification that had to be made.

It is actually quieter than stock with the valves closed and purrs in S+ and under a heavy foot.

Nice pops between gear shifts and low rpm deceleration.

Piping is 3" throughout.

I was a bit suprised at how light the stock exhaust was, I expected a bit more to it.

Gained a 24 lb weight savings with the titanium exhaust (it weighed in a 48lbs), with the stock exhaust coming at 72lbs.

Overall, super happy with my purchase!

My GoPro was dead when I grabbed it, but on the charger now, will post some videos soon...
