Alarm going off by itself

Woke up this morning to find the alarm on my 2022 X5 x40i going off by itself.

Searched online and looks like the hood sensor could be bad but can not locate it to unplug.

This being Sunday I really don't want to listen to this until tomorrow.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Are you saying it's sounding constantly? Even if you unlock it? I don't know where the hood sensor/switch is located but that isn't the only sensor for sounding the alarm. You have tilt angle sensors, noise sensors, etc. I suppose by now you have opened and reclosed every door, hood, hatch, right? Do you have an OBD scanner? If so, I'd look for codes, like if it detected a defective sensor, etc. I'd then reset all codes (if you have any), make sure all doors, etc are properly closed, lock the car and see what happens.

Yes, unlocked in the garage. It goes for about a minute, pauses for a second and resumes.

In searching for an answer the most likely culprit is a faulty hood sensor which appears to be a common issue. I have opened and closed doors, hood, and tailgate. Have locked the car - no change.
Started the car and shut off. No change.

Do not have a scanner.

As a last resort can I disconnect the battery until tomorrow?

Well, I went out to my car to have a look and believe I found the switch that detects when the hood is open/closed. I can't believe that it looks like a run of the mill micro switch but it's all I could find. I'm also having a hard time believing its causing the alarm to go off because its either open or closed and if the car is not locked, the car should not care if its open, closed, missing or damaged but.. .. hey, what do I know. Here are some pix I took for you.. ..

So - I go ahead and disconnect the main battery. Still going off! Research some more and find I also have to disconnect the 48V battery. Do that and STILL going off!

In desperation I look up and what do I see. My FRIKIN smoke detector flashing red and going off! I had just replaced the battery a month or so ago so did not even consider. And I have never heard my car alarm going off so just assumed that LOUD beeping was the car.

Mea Culpa!

Glad you found it and thanks for the chuckle. I was telling the story to my wife and halfway through it she says - it is not his car, probably a smoke detector or something. After almost 42 years she still amazes me at times.

At least all is well with the X5 at the end of the day.

To anyone that didn't know prior to this thread...disconnecting the battery will not kill the alarm siren because it has it own battery. So if a thief attempted to steal your BMW by disconnecting power...the alarm siren will still sound off when loss of power is disrupted.

This disruption can also be caused by a dying battery..especially if the loss of power is sudden. Also, the alarm siren should activate if it hasn't been initiated...so if the siren's battery is charged but not activated (which you can tell the system is activated when the red status LED (clown nose) below the interior rear view mirror is flashing)...the alarm should not be sounding off.

To the OP...next time you are out & away from annoying anyone...simply lock the vehicle...wait approx 20 seconds, then press & hold the PANIC ALARM button on your remote fob so that you know what your alarm sounds like.

If your remote looks like the one below, the PANIC ALARM button is the one on the button with the red alarm icon on it.
