Brake dust make me crayzee

OK, I've driven lots of cars, some with competition brake pads, and I thought I knew all about brake dust.

But this 135 puts out more dust than the Oklahoma panhandle. Especially on the front wheels.

After a hand-wash, my SGM paint stays nice-looking for days on end. But my wheels start looking funky in a day or two.

Maybe it's because of all of those 156 mph-to-0 stops. But I need to find a solution that doesn't involve washing a clean car to get the wheels looking good.

Question: Does this thing actually work?

no matter what rag or gimic you buy, youre still going to have to put some muscle into it. keep some microfiber rags in your trunk and rub them down with those.

Clean them, then wax them. The wax will make them easier to clean.

+1 Use a good wax or paint sealer, and it helps keep them clean. It also helps to protect the wheel finish, since brake dust can be corrisive.

Then when something like Hawk HPS pads come out for the car, get those.

Agreed. Best solution is to change out to aftermarket pads.

I've been trying to find this product- Haven't found it yet. But, in the mean time, I just use a quik detail spray on the wheels with a microfiber (get some microfibers just for your wheels, there going to get ugly). This works well.

i found this gel here in germany.....i wish i would of had pictures to show what it does....my rims on my old 92 were almost black because i never cleaned them...my car is gun metal black and it almost matched to color of my car....i sprayed this magical gel on and the brake dust just kinda looked like it was cracking and metling away....sprayed the rims down with a hose after letting the gel set in for about 10minutes or so and I was amazed to see i still have nice shinny rims......(prior to using the gel I tried scrubbing but it was very difficult and 2 many crevices and almost nothing came off)

The BMW wheel cleaner works similar to the gel but its a trigger spray, i've had black wheels for 3 months and sprayed them and hosed them off after 10 minutes and clean as a whistle.

I plan on replacing the brake pads with Pagid/Axxis pads. I did this on my m3 and wifes 325i and no brake dust.

Yes, I've been doing that for years. Give them a good wax. You can then easily wipe them out.

I use Zaino on the wheels, and works great.

I actually got that wheel duster in the OP, and it works great, other than catching on the valve stem all the time. I have been using at least once a day, s as not to let the dust get too bad....don't know how it would be on a really dirty wheel. Just got my windows tinted today, so I don't know how well it'll keep up withe dust that'll build up while I can't wash my baby....just got it 2 wks ago, and it's been washed three times already....

Great tip with the wax. That never occurred to me. I love Griots wheel cleaner though. They clean up very fast and easy. I will try and add the wax next time I detail the car. Can't hurt.

Guys, I have the perfect system (for me). If you are OCD, heh, grab a bottle of the Turtle Wax, Wax as you Dry. Green bottle with Red label.

After 2 or three days, give the wheels a spritz (just the solution, no water or anything else) and wipe off. After the first application, you'll notice the dust no longer sticks and cakes. This is FAR easier than getting the cleaning solutions and rinsing etc. Plus, EVERYTIME you clean, you reapply a light coating of the wax. Sure, it's not hardy wax, but since you are putting it on every time. It works wonders. Trust me.

1. Easy to clean because you're using it as a wetting agent
2. You're applying a light coat of wax which gives it renewed protection everytime you clean
3. This even works for the lazy people who DON'T fully wax the new wheels, and just do this regime.

Then there's the guy that comes out and says a good coat of wax will do...

Well, you're right, but if you're using regular wheel cleaning agents after that, it erodes at your nice wax coating pretty quickly. Using a Wax As You Dry you kill two birds with one stone. Kinda like a 2-1 hair conditioner.
