Not to be cynical, but does anyone actually care about brake upgrades on an SUV (beyond pub bragging rights?). It’s not as if anyone takes these to the track or exceeds the factory braking capabilities?

Aside from bragging rights it’ll come down to the tire or if you’re repeatedly doing 100mph to 20mph stops and even then the pad type is more crucial for performance.
That said I think we all need to upgrade to the 6-pistons or carbon ceramics because looking cool while stopping is cool. Thanks for sharing the details, I will say the msport brakes have been a massive improvement from feel and perceived stopping power than the F15 brakes. |

Will they coat my freshly cleaned wheels in dust after a 30 minute drive like current MSport brakes?

On a heavy vehicle like an SUV....it makes a HUGE difference IMO. Better brakes are always better anyway.

Depends on the rotor material, I will also add going from hot to cold..aka hot rotors into a puddle of water or car wash can also be a cause of warping.
Smoking, glowing red, tons of heavy duty stops back to back with no cool down period and or shock from major temp changes in super short periods of time. |

They're taller than "normal" pads, so they likely have similar surface area, just in a different form factor.
My C6 Corvette uses "padlets" that are like literally 1.5"x1.5", and it just uses a bunch of them. The idea was they could be replaced individually or something. I still prefer the one piece designs. |

The size of those rear calipers is pathetic. BMW should be ashamed to call those an upgrade. Should have done stock with at least 6 piston fronts and 4 piston rears. They came up short on this one right out of the gate. Still an amazing vehicle.

Rear calipers don't really need to be big to do their limited job. I love a big giant caliper as much as anyone, but they're just extra unsprung weight in the back.

Having more brakes is never a bad thing but why the hell are the front pads half the size of my X5M pads? seems strange to have a massive caliper and rotor to then use a tiny pad.

I think it’s important for family safety. Stopping distance on highway in emergency. I want the best brakes I can get.
