Active autoworks downpipe or evolution autowerks?
I’m torn between these two and need some insight. My reason for not going with a MAD catless DP is the smell. Now, the active auto DP has a 400 cell Cat and the Evo DP has a 200 cell. Do you guys think this makes a difference? Performance wise, sound or smell (lol).
Anyways, please dump any knowledge you have on cats on me!! Edit: this is going on a 2020 x5mc - Akra muffler and link pipe with bootmod3 |

AA 400 cell cats, comes only as a set primary (400 cell gesi high flow catted) and secondary (catless pipe). I agree with offshore you will get no smell unless standing directly behind it and it’s very very tiny due to the secondary catless it comes with, I had no drone, and the pipes are def bigger than the factory ones so there’s def an increase in air flow/performance. Its as close to factory as possible. I def could hear the turbos wizzing up and wizzing down more, for example, my buddy used to stand outside of his house when I was leaving cause he said you could hear the turbos all the way down the block. The car is very insulated so I couldn’t hear them from inside but windows rolled down def yes. I got plenty of compliments from other car enthusiasts at Home Depot or grocery store asking what I had cause they could hear the turbo spools lol. I went with AA due to being in Cali it was the right choice for me at the time, I’m now in Texas and I have just gone fully catless (using a spacer) and the car def pulls way harder, sounds insane, BUT smell is VERY strong and unfortunately I am now getting a lot of drone which really sucks. So that makes me wonder if you’re running higher hp/torque/boost/whatever else, would 200 cell cause drone ? I would never of thought it would but with as much drone as I’m getting now with catless it really makes me wonder. You would def get more sound and more performance but if you get drone it might not be worth it to you. Is the juice worth the squeeze ? Who knows until we try right ? lol another user did go with 200 cell cats I don’t remember the brand but he did not recommend them he said the smell was really bad and you might as well go catless cause 200 cell cats didn’t do very much to stop the smell. Since I already put on the catless Downpipes I’m gonna run them for a while, cel just came on took about 200 miles, and car sputters when I’m at stop light, I think it should stop once car adjusts but now I’m thinking about tuning lol so we’ll see what the future holds. I might sell my Active Autowerkes downpipes since I’m thinking of tuning lmk if you’re interested……
