16th June - Port of Brisbane

Anybody else's car arriving at the Port of Brisbane on the 16th?

I was initially told I would have the car early this month, now it looks like delivery will be pushed back to near the end of the month

Any ideas how long it normally takes to clear customs etc? I've heard something around 10 days??

I have a theory the 7 to 10 days is to let them get any scuffs / scratches / dents sorted out before they deliver your NEW car.

Those car carriers must roll and pitch on the open ocean to some degree. Perhaps the waxy stuff they spray all over the car helps them to quickly see where our cars have been scuffed / scratched etc.

I've been told 3 weeks. 7-10 days is pretty good.

Takes about 2 days to clear customs..
Then another 3 Days at pre delivery, where ever that might be.
Then hopefully 2-3 days at the dealer prepping her up.
Most of the Sydney cars have been around 7 working days from the time the ship docks..

not too sure. I haven't got the VIN... I might given them a call some time to get it off them.

geee 17th, so that's possibly another days wait

i'm getting quite impatient now, and starting to think that I should have just factory ordered my car, that way I could have got the xenons like i wanted, instead of some lame sunroof that serves no other purpose other than burning your neck in the QLD sun :iono:

They do move a bit, but not to the extent that they hit each other as they should all be securely tied down.
I shipped a rather expensive car up to QLD in its own container last year. I saw to the securing of the vehicle to the tie points within the container myself and chocked the wheels securely. HOWEVER the bastard thing still managed to move -to my suprise and shock- a good 5 inches to one side, the side mirror narrowly missing the container wall by a few millimetres. The cause I put down to some dodgy tie downs.

I havent been on a voyage on one of these car-carrying ships though and it would be interesting to get input from anyone that has experience in this area...I'd love to know what goes on exactly on the ship.

There have been a few articles (if i remember correctly) in wheels mags about RORO carriers in recent years, it looks alright. But a couple of years ago, I saw some E90 sedans being driven really hard off the ship by dock workers when I went to check out the arrival of my car. It's understandable considering that they may have to unload hundreds of cars within a given time period, but it looked like they were having too much fun...they certainly didn't look after them.

I really wouldn't be surprised - these halfwits probably see this as the only opportunity they have to stick it up to rich people.

Let's hope none of us see a repeat of what happened in the US back in January...

I’m sure today wasn’t a good day for BMW North America or for one insurance company. Because of a tipped cargo ship in New Jersey, 370 BMW cars were damaged, 70 of which were completely wrecked. And that’s not all the bad news…it seems that most of the cars were brand new E92 M3s. I’m sure the insurance company which will pay for this won’t be so happy about it.

The damaged cars will be taken to BMW’s Elizabeth Receiving facility where they’ll be fixed and then sold as new, which I don’t know if it’s so convenient for the buyers. The 70 severely damaged cars will be crushed.

Someone's poor 1er:
