I've got 110k miles on the beige leatherette on my car. Once I wiped off some hot sauce with a wet rag off of one seat. Another time I used a wet rag to clean off a lot of dust from running with the windows down on a dirt road at high speeds. When I vacuum the carpets, I'll hit the seats quickly to take off any junk floating on them. Other than that, I've mostly ignored them.
At 90k, the seat heater went out I replaced the entire lower seat cover along with the seat heater. The beige was a perfect match to the rest of the interior. You cannot tell what was brand new, and what I've abused for 110k miles. I can't say that BMW's leatherette will perform the same. But I'm very hard pressed to advise using anything other than a little water on a damp rag to clean your seats based upon my experience. I definitely would NOT use any leather care products at all. They are designed to absorb natural oils back into the leather. Leatherette doesn't need it, and won't absorb it. Last edited by Nixon; 08-10-2009 at 03:10 PM.. |

Moist towel followed by a blast with the airhose for me. Leatherette is so easy to maintain. The same method is effective on the various rubber bits as well.

I have used Vinylex (made by teh Lexol people) on my MINI. Not that often though, maybe twice a year. Otherwise, I just wipe it with some windex or simple green if I get somethign on it.

I know this is old but I stumbled upon it, anyway I was given two bottles of BMW vinyl care when I bought some parts at the dealer, the stuff is amazing, it smells just like the new car smell the factory leatherette and vinyl panels have and cleans well, best vinyl stuff I've ever come across, though vinylex is good. I'll be using it every couple months at least!
