X5 MHEV 48V Battery Problems
Hi
Been experiencing issues with my X5MHEV 2021 72,000 miles (UK based). Now diagnosed as a 48V MHEV battery problem, albeit if the battery replacement doesn't work, then will need to replace the starter/generator/alternator component, followed by the control module of that doesn't work. Cost of a new battery is ridiculous! Understand when enquiring about availability and price, BMW UK are currently supplying 10-12 of the batteries a month, so clearly not an isolated case. There are now a number of used 48V batteries on the market, which I have asked my garage about fitting. They are concerned that as the battery has come from another vehicle and will therefore already be coded, it might not be possible to re-code the battery to my vehicle. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Ordinarily I wouldn't consider fitting used components, but given the cost of new and more particularly the vehicle is now at a point when it can be returned (PCP term nearly up), my plan is to fix the problem and give the car back. Fantastic car, but wouldn't be rushing to buy another MHEV, starting to hear lots of problems with the BMW MHEV system (or certainly the older ones like mine from when BMW 1st started to incorporate the system Many Thanks |

Hi, Fantastic information, I'll speak to my garage now and try to find a battery.
Currently wrangling with extended warranty company who have rejected my claim on the grounds that batteries are excluded. Stated under the section "service and maintenance items, including......... spark plugs. batteries, fuses and bulbs..... Tried to explain that the 48V battery is clearly not a service item but a fundamental part of the drive train system (all mechanical and electrical components, of which, are covered). Not interested, batteries are excluded!!!! Many Thanks |
