Driving School

I was interested in taking the BMW driving school course, but it is too far away. I live in NJ and want to know if there are similar driving schools around here. I looked at the Skip Barber school in CT, but the prices were steep. I am basically looking for a high performance car control course or something similar. Thanks in advance.

It's not free and you don't necessarily need to join to go. You need to check with your local chapter.
Here's the general site: www.bmwcca.org
Most local chapter's have their own sites with their rules. It's a GREAT experience.

If you do join, I would appreciate a referral for a free month of membership. #193762

really, two ways to look at it.

1: schools where you drive your own car. these are called "drivers' ed," and run by bmwcca, pca, audi club, and regional clubs as well. if run by a club, they are generally non-profit, and well run. timing is often prohibited. very cost effective, usually $350-450 for a weekend (3-4 runs, 20-25 min each per day). there are for-profit companies that run these, like chin motorsports and trackdaze, and these might be a little more expensive, but might give a little more track time per day.

2: driving "experiences", where you drive their car. these can be shockingly expensive, but you don't wear/tear your car, obviously. you can do anything from street cars to race prepped cars to formula racers. professional classroom and on-track instruction.

pick your poison (and budget). when considering costs, keep in mind that driving your own car means you have to spend money on tires, gas, inspections, and brakes, and your auto insurance might not cover your track activity.
