are you using the stock steering wheel now? If so please let me know if you had to replace the airbag when switching from stock wheel to m-sport wheel. My understanding is that you have to in order to replace the OEM standard wheel with the M-sport wheel. So I'm wondering how easy or expensive it will be if I go this way. Thanks,

no you don't it's a straight swap, many threads on this on e90post.com, I'll try to find the main DIY thread, did this on my e46 too, it's not hard at all. If you have the sport steering wheel, whether it be multifunction, M, with or without paddles you use the same airbag- part number 32306779826, so all you need is the wheel. I was happy to get the wheel and M trim plate included because vlkwagen upgraded to the BMW performance wheel (which is really an amazing product if you have the money, gives 1/4 mile times, gforces and more) and that included the trim plate, otherwise if you order an M wheel you can either reuse your sport trim plate with the chrome siding or pay an extra $100 or so for the M trim plate (new)

FYI - I found this on an OEM BMW sales site: if anyone knows please confirm if the air bag is required..

yes the plate/trim panel and wheel are separate, and getbmwparts.com (aka tischer bmw) has the same wheel for $385.00, here http://www.trademotion.com/partlocat...catalogid=4462, I got a little better deal than that so thanks to vlkwagen and sorry we're kind of highjacking your thread
