Bellevue BMW = FAIL
My eight month old 135i with 6100 miles says it wants a quart of oil. Great, I call up the dealer where I bought it (not Bellevue), they say come on in, we'll top you off. Don't come between 8:30 and 10:30, gets crazy here and you'll have to wait. So I don't.
I'm at work in downtown Bellevue thinking now is a good time, I'll just jet over to Bellevue BMW and they'll take care of me and my practically new car with service included. I pull in, and am informed by the service advisor that BMW does not warranty top offs. I can go to the parts counter, buy a quart, and Tino will help me pour it into my car. I get to the line of customers for the parts counter, stand there for a moment thinking about the full retail with dealer markup gold plated quart of oil I'm about to buy, and think "wait, I can't do this". A quick call to my original dealer (Seattle, did you guess?) confirms that they will top me off free of charge. So it may well be that BMW (of NA no doubt, the buggers who forced me to have a sunroof) won't warranty a quart of oil for top off, but for the (wholesale bulk) price of a quart of oil, Bellevue BMW could have had a chance at all my ongoing service needs, some of which would have no doubt been covered by warranty. For the cost of a quart of oil to them, they blew it. Bellevue BMW = FAIL (At least I got to see the cool 120i four door hatch back, white, with Mexico plates. Owner said she's trying to get it into Canada, but like the US they won't let it in either (bet BMW NA is behind this), so it is going back to Mexico.)

It's not BMW NA - both governments have strict regulations about importing new cars that are not sold in the country. There are several good posts on this topic on this forum if you are interested.

BMW Seattle took care of me, didn't even ask how long I'd had my car, where I got. Just got a quart of oil and got me on my way. The dealership is a bit crowded (they are working on that) and busy, but has always done right.
BMW NA is responsible for the sunroofs, and I think they should work on getting the rest of the Series 1 line to us even if they don't. Okay, so they don't have anything to do with grey market, but it shouldn't be needed for those neat little four door hatch backs (the horror, a hatch).

Then again, Bellevue BMW sold my buddy a 1 for over $800 less than Seattle..
That is a lot of quarts of oil. |

Ellie at BMW Seattle is my hero. This same thing happened to me at 8200 miles and I took it to her with no problems and no fee. She's already the busiest Service Adviser there though. haha, tell her Woody sent you!
Their new facilty opening this summer looks amazing, btw. It's down by Safeco Field... HUGE. |
