Front Centre Speaker Pics
I don't have iDrive or Logic7. On top of the dashboard is a plain plastic cover with two air vents either side of the plain middle bit where I think the Logic7 centre speaker would go if I had it...
I am installing a parrot system using a separate speaker and want to mount the speaker where the centre speaker would normally go if the car had logic7. To go with this, I would like to get a replacement panel that has the speaker grill in it but not sure what it looks like, so I have no idea if it would just fit straight in the original panel's place..... Does anyone have any pics of this area WITH the centre speaker in it please? If anybody knows the correct uk part number that would be great too! Thanks, Dan |

It's the same, there are two different covers, one for cars equipped with IDrive (to accomodate the hump) and one without (non-IDrive cars).

Oh right.... I assumed the centre speaker would need a grill above it.... Would it not sound a bit muffled? Or do you mean you only get the option of logic7 if u have idrive?
That realoem page mentions a single scoop and double scoop - one of them is if you have the logic 7 but doesn't seem to show this one.... |

regardless if you have Logic7 or not, the cover has two 'vents' so I don't believe the sound would be muffled.
Single = non-IDrive cars Double = IDrive cars Quote:

Also think about the fact that you're getting pretty close to the engine and fan blower where you want to put that speaker. There will be a greater amount of noise you'll have to compensate for.

The piece of plastic that you have between the two vents on a non-logic7 dash is replaced by a speaker grill for the logic7 setup. Sound isn't muffled because the solid piece of plastic is not there. Vents still blow air, though I must admit I've never put my hand up there.

I asked the dealer for the part today - they wanted a chassis number of a car with logic7 and without iDrive so they knew they definately have the right part. Would anybody with that spec be kind enough to do that for me?
Also is the non-idrive version definately SINGLE scoop? ...and what does that actually mean, by the way? |

Idrive has two hoods if you will on the dash, one covers the gauge cluster the other the NAV screen, Non iDrive (aka Non Nav) only has the hood over the gauge cluster. You can get the part number off of RealOEM.com, the link was provided in an earlier post and it's part number 2 in that schematic.

Unless there is some risk in sending over the chassis number (last 7 digits of VIN) that I'm unaware of, I can PM you mine. Anyone walking by the car can see the whole number anyway. I have Logic7 without iDrive on a US spec car. The speaker/vent piece looks symmetrical though, so I wouldn't be surprised if it's the same for cars that drive on the other side of the road.

I'd really appreciate that, thanks beamer. I'll let you know if BMW can tell you have logic7 from it, assuming a us model will show up on their system... But if they all originate from Germany they must be listed in a similar way I guess...
Is logic7 the same as what realOEM call the 'individual' system? Why are there 2 different options for single scoop, hifi and individual.... What's the difference? It's strange the only options on that page are for the speaker versions yet the picture at the top shows a plain one like mine... |

Thanks for the pm, Beamer. I will call bmw on monday and see what they come up with....
Strange thing is though, when I put the e91 into realOEM and find that same part, it has a different part number to the one listed for my e90 - I would have thought they are exactly the same?? |

It may be safest to find an e90 of the same year on your dealer's lot with the logic7 installed and take that VIN. So many variables that could change the part (e90 vs. 91... iDrive vs. non... UK vs. US... year... interior colour). I would hope that BMW would share such a simple piece among similar models, but you never know.

I just put a screwdriver through on of the air vent fins and carefully pulled upwards and it popped out. It pops up from the rear end first nearest you & them the edge nearest the windscreen comes off with a bit more awkward wiggling...
