TPMS initialize option?
hey guys, I read in the e92 manual that when you get new TPMS, you need to initialize them in order to get the yellow warning light off of your screen. I searched everywhere here, and sat in my car for about an hour trying to find it, but all I can locate is the TPMS reset option, which does nothing. My car does not have NAV, any advice is greatly appreciated

I'm not totally 100% sure on this but I think the tpms is suppose to be initialized before they're installed into the tires. Ours cars only have the ability to recognize the tpms sensors, not initializing them. When I got my new wheels, all I had to do is reset the tpms and drive for a few miles

I was just about to pull out my manual before I saw this. I got a low pressure warning today and saw one of my tires was kind of low. After putting air in the tire I tried to reset the warning and it wasn't working. After reading above it looks like I missed the step of holding the 2 button in for 5 seconds. Mine might be different then yours because I have a 325, but I started the car and while in park hit the 1 button up/down(state above) to go through your menu until you find INIT. Then click the 2 button once to select, then click and hold in for 5 seconds until you see the check mark, then just drive around for a few blocks. I just went out and did it and it worked for me.
So reset and initialize aren't the same? I don't have a reset in my car anywhere ,but I have initalize.

Some of the E92's had a problem with not being able to reset the system, and needed a software update to correct the problem.
Did you ever get those door seals? |

Nope still have not got those door seals done, its such a hard thing to buy, because its so expensive, for such a minor thing! but it sure needs to be fixed sooner or later. So as for the TPMS reset: these are new TPMS units, never paired with my car before, how hard is it for the dealer to do this? Brandon |

You can't find the option through the BC? Or once you've found it, you can't reset it?
Use the little click wheel on the turn signal stalk until you see the tpm symbol, hold in the BC button until the word "reset?" shows, let go of the BC button and hold it again until the check mark shows up. |

I have the reset option, and I am able to reset the system, but it doesnt get rid of the yellow warning light that is on my screen at all times. The manual that I did a screen cap of (above) says I need to initialize-NOT reset if I have the yellow warning sign, only problem is, that after about an hour in the car, I just cant find that initialize option

The yellow light should come off once you reset the system. Are they OEM sensors? Have you check your tires pressure? |

yep, they are OEM sensors, tire pressure is perfect. The screen cap I posted above, says they have to be initialized, and absolutely has nothing to do with the reset option, they are two completely separate things according to the BMW manual

Thats strange, you might have to check with the dealer on that. I've gone thru 4 sets of TPMS sensors and each time I was able to initialize/reset in the IDrive no problems. Why don't you come by and throw the wheels on my car, see if my car can recognize it... If it can't then it might be a TPMS problem.

Brandon, reset/initialize are the same thing. The reason your car doesn't say "initialize", even though that manual says it should, is that that manual is for FTM. You don't have FTM, you have TPMS. They just changed the word.

this is good info because i just purchased some new wheels and tires but i need to put my factory tpms on the new setup. one other question, my new setup is mounted and balanced. will i have to re-balance after putting on my factory tpms? my intuition says yes but i would like to hear some confirmation. thanks!

so i was driving around without my fender lining for a while and had the tpms light up. The sensor for the front wheels temps is in there. After putting it back in and trying to reset for a while it didnt work. The key was to reset the tpms while driving. Im assuming that the tpms will have an easier time reactivating while under motion because well, they could be generating eddy currents when the wheels are spinning.
