Stupid Question

I've bled the brakes on many cars over the years.... but this morning I went out to do it on my 135..... and I can't find the brake fluid reservoir!

Anyone willing to tell me where it's at and how I get to it.....?????

Sorry for being an idiot

I'm about to do the same thing soon...
The brake fluid reservoir is located on the Driver side, the corner closest to the steering wheel. it is covered by a plastic cover, which is secured by 2 rubber tab.

this is the best picture I've uploaded:

the reservoir is at the very top of the photo. Let me know how it goes. How much fluid do you need?

Thanks

I found it and changed out the fluid and the pads.

What a pain. Doing the fluid was fine..... just like every other car in the world after you get under that plastic cover.

But the front pads! You have to remove the calipers of course, and they weigh a ton! Then getting the new pads onto the pins and the calipers back on the rotors!

Car companies have known for decades how to replace pads from the top. Why would they make this such a pain in the ass?

As far as the fluid goes, I just filled an EZ bleeder with a pint of Super Blue. No fuss, No muss.

Thanks for the heads up on location.

I've got a stupid question for you... I's just trying to put in a new front sway bar, but I just couldn't figure out where to put the jack stand on this car. The jack pad is plastic.. if I put the stands there the plastic just breaks. The driver side jack pad is now f*cked, at least on the short sides of the rectangle. Where do you put the stands when you're jacking up the front?
Thanks

You should use jack adapters, or cut a small block of wood as an insert - or I use a hockey puck. This will protect the plastic jack pad. There is a middle jack point just behind the engine oil drain flap.

I have two jacks....

I have also cut little blocks of wood, about the size of the little plastic jack points... Then I put a little wood block into the jack point then jack up one side of the car

Once that side is raised, I put the other jack and little block of wood under the center jack point, about three feet back from the front bumper. Raise the car from that point. Then I remove the first jack and put the jack stands under the forward jack points on each side with little blocks of wood fitted into the plastic doohickies.

Not that inconvenient.

I messed up my driver side jack point as well - I was lucky enough to still be able to fit a piece of wood in it and place my jack stands that way.

You can also replace the plastic jack point - I asked Dan@United and he sells the replacement part:

$10.07 each @ 51717123311

OK... I cut two piece of solid wood I found lying around:

I put some electric tape on it so they won't fall off when I position them. Is this Safe?? the jack stand is only contacting a small area (< 1 sq in) on the piece of wood. Will the car be stable to work on like this?

Why the heck do they make jack stand with out a FLAT top!?! That U shape is just weird. Maybe I can get someone to weld a thick flat piece of metal on the jack stand...

That looks to be quite unsafe...

With the weight of the car on there, that electrical tape won't do ANYTHING if there is a shift in weight on the car (opening a door to get inside to start the car, etc.)

Maybe someone else can chime in, but I personally would NOT use those..If somehow the wood slips, that could cause some SERIOUS damage to your car.

agreed. the amount of contact between he jack stand and the wood is very small. i wouldn't use that. i use jack stands with a relatively small square top surface and a wide base. they snugly hold the bmw jack pad.

See this thread.....I purchased this and it's great.

You could do a similar think with wood, but you want to size the wood so that it fits inside the jack pad thingy on the car, like the top portion of the adapter in the thread.

yeah I thought it's not safe just by looking at it... lol

^ I'm thinking of doing that. I've ordered the reverse logic pad... but I still need some wooden block to slide inside the jack pad... anyone know what the dimensions of the rectangle block?
Thanks

If you are getting the Reverse Logic Adapter (RLA), you don't need wood.
Unless I'm not getting what you are asking

The rectangular portion of the RLA, for the 135i is about 55mm long, 30mm wide and 16mm deep, if that's what you are looking for.

The RLA is for the jack, the piece of wood I'm trying to cut is for jack stands. The jack stands that I've destroyed one of my jack pad already.

Thanks for the dimensions

Actually my car only has 5000 miles on it, but the reason I was changing the fluid was to replace it with Super Blue. I was also putting on Carbotech pads. My first event at Mid-Ohio is next week.

I've always found that one of the most important things that you do at the track is SLOW DOWN for the turns.
