Colorado 1ers?? Advice needed
Hey guys- I have just applied for a job transfer (promotion) to Colorado (Denver). Big change for me, as I am attempting to "escape" from Miami. Off topic, I am hoping some of you could recommend a suburb near Denver which is nice and convenient to use the lightrail. On topic, will my poor 128i be OK with some dedicated snow tires/winter wheels? Or should I plan on garaging him for the winter, and use the FWD Acura with snows? Thanks for any advice on either topic.

Do you know what part of town your office is in? If it happens to be in Interlocken for example, living near the lightrail may be a moot point as the lightrail has not yet expanded up the highway 36 corridor. If the office is downtown or in the DTC (Denver Tech Center), you would have decent access via lightrail.
As for your 128, you would probably be fine about 90% of the time with dedicated snow tires. The snow doesn't stay on the streets of the Denver metro area for very long; usually 2-3 days tops. The snow tires should be able to handle light and packed snow easily. There are times when we get heavy snowfall or a freak blizzard rolls through. When that happens, snow can accumulate quickly on the roads and it is really handy to have a car with additional ground clearance and possibly AWD or 4WD. I'd probably dedicate your Acura to the snowy days. Good luck with the transfer/promotion.

Jason, thanks- I see you are from Westminster, which is an area we really like. Does the lightrail go there? I think the office is downtown in the federal building. Really hoping this job comes through.

The lightrail does not go up to Westminster. Basically, the lightrail stretches from downtown to south metro Denver. However, it is not a hassle to take a RTD bus from north metro Denver to downtown, my brother does it all the time.

AtomiK is correct, but the lightrail is being expanded throughout the metro area by RTD's Fastracks program. It will be quite a while before it is all complete, but here are some of the details: http://www.rtd-fastracks.com/main_26. Depending where you choose to live, you may be near a future lightrail line.
