HCBMW Alarm Activation
Hi. Has anyone here taken their car to Herb Chambers BMW to have their OEM alarm activated? I ask because I installed the alarm in about 30mins yesterday morning and went down to have it activated and they looked at me like I asked them to do an engine swap. Then they proceeded to tell me I would have to leave the car for a whole day and it would cost me $200. Needless to say I stood up and walked out. Anyone used them or another dealer in the area? This should be a 30-60 min job tops. TIA.

all these threads about Herb Chamber and you guys still head in there...???!!!!
do they just need the computer to activate it? if so, i know someone (who use to be a bmw tech) that can do it for you at his garage for a lower cost.

that's what I'm waiting on. i told him I'm not making an apt until he gives me the full estimate. He hold me they were going to have to check the alarm install. I was like that's fine do what you gotta do but your not charging me for it. It's three pieces, i do not ride the short bus. I'm pretty sure I got it installed properly. Jackasses.

www.bimrs.org has a list of independent shops that work on BMWs. German Performance Service in Brighton, MA and Village European in Concord, MA quoted me $95 for activating the alarm. Their labor rates are a lot lower than BMW dealers: around $90/hr vs $130/hr.
